Nitro is often called a "thin skin" as it really allows the guitar to resonate freely. It has a superior feel and a super glossy look to it. Poly is almost like a thin layer of plastic. It feels tacky and doesn't allow the guitar to resonate very well. Most companies use poly because its faster to work with.

Do not process nitrocellulose in your Sidewinder. It is dangerous and related damage is not covered by warranty.

We don't recommend using hair spray other than our own Grooming Mist, simply because we don't know all the ingredients that go into all the hair sprays on the market and some ingredients may be counter-productive. Absolutely! We use very high quality (high cost) slide pots and like a fine race car, maintenance is critical. If you keep the pot clean and lubricated it will last many years. Powder coating is justifiably superior to wet spray in so many ways. If your part is capable of being powder coated, there is really no reason why you would be compelled to choose otherwise. It's generally less expensive because the process is quicker. Powder coating is not subject to the extra time it takes to set up and break down from a wet spray project. Further, the thermal bonding process makes for a much more durable finish than wet spray.
