What's a tile flange and will I need one on my tub?

Kitchen Bath Plus - 866.656.0175

Every tub that will be installed against one, two, or three walls should have a tile flange. This is especially critical on tubs that will be used as showers.

What is a tile flange?

KOHLER: Frequently Asked Questions: Planning
A tile flange is usually for a tub or shower receptor only. It is the raised area around the edge of the tub/receptor that goes right up against the studs. Sometimes you nail/screw it to the studs. Sometimes you don't (i.e. cast iron tubs) but they all serve the function of helping prevent water from getting up over the edge of the tub and down into the walls or onto the sub-floor.
