Reading Counts (RC) is a reading management software program developed by Scholastic Book Publishers. RC provides quizzes to go with children's books, testing their reading comprehension. Go to the RC website at http://src.scholastic.com/ecatalog/readingcounts/index.htm to order RC products.

Twice a year, students perform the Reading Counts Inventory. For about 20 minutes (or as long as the student needs), the student reads passages of text and responds to multiple choice questions designed to test comprehension. The texts vary in their length, vocabulary, and sentence complexity. The inventory is designed to find the level at which the student is most comfortable reading.

We ask students to set a personal goal for their reading. They score points for each book that they read and for which they get a passing score on the comprehension quiz. Students who achieve their goal are celebrated. Students who are high point scorers are also celebrated. If you would like, we can register a "personal reading goal" for your child and make sure we celebrate his or her individual accomplishment when he reaches it.
