You may send money by obtaining a money order or certified check. The funds may be delivered via mail to the inmate or brought to the lobby officer on duty during the following times:

To add money to an inmate's account, you must submit it in a sealed envelope addressed to the inmate who is to receive the funds. The envelope must also include the name of the person funding the account, and must be placed in the jail lobby drop box or mailed. Please note: Cash will not be accepted. Only money orders or bank cashier's checks will be accepted. Receipts will not be given for the funds. The money order or cashier's check stub will serve as your receipt.

Inmates may receive written letters and standard photographs. Polaroid photographs, stamps, envelopes, and other forwarded items are not allowed. Mail content must be thoroughly understandable by jail staff. Mail or publications containing images or depictions of sexual situations, frontal nudity, or sexual acts are prohibited.

You may include money orders (no checks or cash) in letters sent to the inmate. Be sure to clearly indicate the inmate’s name (the name under which they are incarcerated) and ODOC number. There is no reason an inmate should need a large sum of money! Should you be requested to submit a large sum of money, ask the inmate why, then call the facility and discuss the matter with their Case Manager. The level system determines custody level, job status, program status, and privileges.

There is no limit to the amount of money you can send or bring to an inmate as long as the funds are in the form of a cashiers check or money order.

Incoming mail must list the full name and address of the sender and the intended receiver. Improperly addressed mail will be returned. The correct address is: The U.S. Post Office will not accept outgoing mail that contains any drawing on the front of the envelope or mail that contains colored drawings on the back of the envelope. Cash is not accepted! The only way to get money into a detainee's/inmate's account is with a money order made out to the inmate. In addition, there is a limit of $500 that may be in a detainee's/inmate's account. Money orders that exceed $500 or cause a detainee's/inmate's account balance to exceed $500 will not be accepted.

Each facility has its own regulations. Specific questions regarding visitation procedures should be addressed to the facility where the inmate is housed.

inmate may receive newspapers, magazines and books, but they must be received directly from a publisher or bookstore. Any subscription material received after an inmate leaves the jail will not be forwarded. Inmates are prohibited from subscribing to services or ordering merchandise.

Inmates buy a variety of things from the jail commissary: candy, snacks, beverages, writing materials, shoes and clothing, provided they have sufficient funds to pay for what they order. When money is placed into an inmate's trust account, the first $15.00 is automatically placed in his personal account, which is used for medical co-pays while in custody. The remaining money is automatically placed in his commissary account, which can be used to buy commissary items.

If an inmate has no money in his commissary account for seven days prior to the request for commissary, the jail will supply him with necessary personal hygiene items as determined by jail staff. He will also receive three stamped envelopes and writing paper each week.

Money, in the form of cash or a money order for an inmate is accepted at the jail. Money, in the form of cash or a money order can also be mailed directly to an inmate. The money order (recommended procedure) should be made out to the inmate. Money mailed to an inmate will be removed from the envelope and credited to the inmate’s account when it is received.

Please note this address is for an inmate letter and commissary only. Do not send cash, checks, stamps, etc. All mail is screened and these items will be removed and not forwarded to the inmate. Only Money Orders are accepted to be put on an inmates account. The money order must be made out to "Cape May County Correctional Center C/O inmate (John Doe)". If this is not correctly written on the Money Order it can not be deposited in the commissary account.
