CVV stands for Credit Verification Value. It is a new method for your bank to protect your account from fraudulent transactions. This is a 3 to 4 digit number found on all credit or debit cards but it is not embossed or digitized on the card. Therefore, only the cardholder has this information. Most internet sites do not require this information but we do to protect your valuable credit and our merchandise.

The CVV (Card Validation/Verification Value) or CCV (Credit Card Validation/Verification), whatever you want to call it is simply an anti-fraud device designed to protect cardholders. This code is an added level of security that is intended to verify that the physical card is actually in the person’s possession. Get help with locating the CVV or CCV code in this diagram.

VISA, MASTERCARD & DISCOVERY: You can find your card verification code on the reverse side of your credit card, printed into the signature field. It is a 3-digit group for MasterCard, Visa, and Discovery. The American Express Card verification code is a 4-digit number printed on the front of your card. It appears after and to the right (above) of your card number.

The CVV code or security code is 3 to 4 digit number on the backside of your credit card. This code provides additional security for your protection.

It is an important new Internet security feature that now appears on the back of most Visa/MasterCard and Discover cards. This new code is a three or four-digit number which provides a cryptographic check of the information embossed on the card. The security code helps validate that the customer placing the online order actually has the credit card in his/her possession, and that the credit/debit card account is legitimate.

If this code is printed on your card, then YES, you must enter the code. Visa, MasterCard, and Discover are now starting to require Internet stores to obtain the security code for all cards that have a code printed on them. In order for this transaction to be accepted and processed, you must enter this code if it's printed on your card. This is done for your protection.

Citibank has pioneered the concept of HPIN (Internet password). An HPIN is the secure Internet Password that identifies if the actual owner of the Card is using the Citibank ATM/Debit Card. The CVV number refers to the last 3 digits of the account panel on your Credit Card. Keying in of the CVV number ensures that the Card is in possession of the person conducting the online transaction.

For Visa/Mastercard, the three-digit CVV number is printed on the signature panel on the back of the card immediately after the card's account number For American Express, the four-digit CVV number is printed on the front of the card above the card account number.
