We dissuade students from starting too early on SAT prep. Don't be fooled or persuaded into taking SAT prep too soon. The best thing to do is get good grades and take as challenging a curriculum as you can handle. In regard to the SAT read, read, and read. Answer: The Stony Brook ATP is structured so that the application process is completed during the spring semester of sophomore year, however a junior or senior-level student may apply when the required prerequisite coursework is completed.

All academic scholarship recipients are expected to maintain a cumulative 3.0 GPA to renew their scholarship each year. Leadership scholarship recipients must maintain a 2.5 GPA. Music scholarship recipients must achieve a 2.5 overall GPA and a 3.0 in their applied music field.

We feel that students who have completed at least two years of undergraduate education will be better prepared to fully take advantage of the opportunities in this program. There is a prom in the spring of each year. Prom is for Juniors and Seniors. Underclassmen may attend if they are the date of a Junior or Senior. This event is held off-campus at a site to be determined. There is also an "after prom" event called "Project Prom." This gives the students the opportunity to have fun in a safe, alcohol and drug-free environment. This event is also chaperoned by faculty and parents.

A few workshops will be dedicated specifically to junior administrators (those relatively new to higher education), while some will be geared primarily toward senior administrators (seasoned professionals in higher education). This is a new effort on our part to respond to the different needs and interests of these groups. Not all workshops will have this feature, but be sure to read carefully so that you go to a workshop that is appropriate for your level of experience.
