This website contains a range of BMPs to consider. Each must be tailored to meet the needs of the specific drilling site and development proposal.

Because the BLM has a backlog of exchange proposals, we have found that the most efficient procedure in this Resource Area has been to work instead through a third-party. This party goes into the real estate market to secure private lands which can be exchanged with the BLM. These lands are identified in conjunction with the BLM's planning process, to maximize access, consolidate public holdings and enhance management of sensitive resources.

We all do! We all benefit from the additional energy and from the conservation of such important public resources as wildlife, rare plants, clean air, and outstanding scenery.

All energy development proposals on the Public Lands undergo extensive environmental reviews prior to approval. When energy companies propose in their drilling permit applications to drill in an environmentally sound manner using BMPs, the government and public environmental review process is much easier, and goes more quickly. BLM encourages all energy companies to develop and add BMPs into all of their drilling proposals.

The public can become involved directly with individual development projects as they undergo site-specific environmental analyses.

Through its land-use planning process, the BLM identifies parcels of land for potential sale that fall into one of the following categories: land where disposal will serve important public objectives, such as community expansion and economic development. The growing cities and towns of the West are spreading closer or even next to once-remote BLM-managed public lands. As a result, the public in general - and Westerners in particular - appreciate the open space guaranteed by BLM.

The Horsetown Clear Creek preserve (an agreement is currently in effect with this preserve to close hunting in the area). Public lands are no longer open to homesteading. The Federal Land Policy and Management Act of 1976 repealed the homestead laws in all states except Alaska which was closed to homesteading in 1986. Many parcels of public land are, however, available for acquisition within the Redding Field Office.

BLM does not sell land outright. Land is exchanged at fair market value, not acre for acre. BLM tends to use a third party organization to do large land exchanges (it costs the same whether a quarter of an acre is exchanged or a quarter of a million acres is exchanged). If you are interested in a particular piece of land please write a letter to our office and give the township, range and section of the land, or your best description of the land.

The BLM administers public lands within a framework of numerous laws. The most comprehensive of these is the Federal Land Policy and Management Act of 1976 (FLPMA). All Bureau policies, procedures and management actions must be consistent with FLPMA and the other laws that govern use of public lands. It is the mission of the Bureau of Land Management to sustain the health, diversity and productivity of the public lands for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations.

Though Jersey City originally rose as a center of industry and as cargo hub, now it is a better known as a office and retail center.

We are often asked why it takes such a long time to purchase public land. Almost every homeowner is familiar with the delay between when you sign a purchase agreement for a home and the land it sits on, and when you actually close. This is the same process we go through - only we typically are buying larger parcels of land, often involving multiple owners, and using public funds. That takes more time.

While some BMPs add to the cost of producing oil and natural gas, other BMPs will actually save the energy company money. BLM considers cost, but as public land managers, we must also look at the value of the natural resources we are protecting when choosing the appropriate BMP.

The Campbell Tract is an administrative site used by the BLM's Anchorage Field Office and certain BLM State Office branches. The Tract houses adminstrative offices, a warehouse, shops, communication sites, an active airstrip and heliport, and the Campbell Creek Science Center. The airstrip is available for use in emergencies and for agency use. The open space at Campbell Tract is managed as an outdoor classroom for the Science Center and for non-motorized recreational use.

In general, use JPEGs since they're small in file size and create a near perfect screen shot. Near perfect-not perfect. Sometimes you'll see a little fuzziness around small letters or images with lots of fine detail, and occasionally there are slight variances in colors. Bitmaps (BMP), on the other hand, won't give you that problem since a bitmap is a pixel perfect image of the screenshot. However, an 800x600 JPEG screen shot is about 250K, while the same bitmap file is about 1.

The BLM is an agency in the Department of the Interior, in the U.S. Government. The BLM manages 264 million acres of surface acres of public lands located primarily in the 12 Western States, including Alaska. The agency manages an additional 300 million acres of below ground mineral estate located throughout the country.

The Secretary of the Interior has withdrawn the land on Campbell Tract for use by the BLM as an administrative site. Under the Federal Land Policy and Management Act, land can be withdrawn for up to 20 years. The BLM's withdrawal on the Campbell Tract expires in February 2022.

Potentially these lands could be used for bioenergy crop production. This might be a good use of such lands because the crops would take up carbon dioxide, sequester carbon in their above and below-ground growth, remove other pollutants from the air, and minimize maintenance needs and fossil energy use for grass-cutting, etc. However, harvesting and removing the crops safely might present problems, and there may be no markets nearby for the biomass, making transport rather expensive.

Education is more effective than regulations and environmental remediation in managing public lands. The BLM believes it's more cost effective to educate people about the appropriate use of resources on public lands than it is to restore land after it has been misused.
