If the pilot lights but in turning knob to the on position the unit goes out, then this is caused by a blockage in the pilot. Bugs and spiders get into the pilot assembly, venturi tube and burner ports causing the unit to either not light or poor performance. Connection between gas valve and pilot assembly may be loose.
