Answer: Yes you can, BUT... Although dot matrix printers can print almost anything, they are best suited for certain tasks and less suited for others. You must understand, that under Windows, dot matrix printers will default to printing in "graphics mode". In this mode, the computer sends information to the printer dot by dot (pin by pin in other words) and makes the printer print extremely slow but the resulting printout will be very nice and things like pictures and logos will print.

I've connected the USB to Serial adapter but it's on Com Port 5 (or higher) and your software only has Ports 1-4. This issue applies to the c\temp software only. This has been resolved with the new version of the MDAS-Pro software. If you do not have a copy of this software, please contact us.

Yes. The easiest way to do this is to extend the side of the cable with the RS232-C connector. You can purchase a connector and an extra length of standard "RS232-C straight through" cable from many local electronics stores. The maximum recommended total cable length (including all parts and extensions) is 25 feet.

Are you using the proper cable? (it should be black; the ThoughtStream cable looks identical but is beige) Is Proteus in DL mode? (if not, press the middle button until it is, and repeat the download process. Remember that the Proteus digital display will show rapidly changing numbers if it is receiving data. You must use a 9 pin straight through (not null modem) cable with the appropriate connectors for the IT and the computer (one male and one female).

Double-check all of your serial parameters, such as Parity, Stop Bit, Etc. If you're not using a canned software package (Such as Label Wizard) and writing your own code verify that your program has the appropriate serial command parameters (Stx, Etx,) and that it has a quantity command specified. Consult the Trouble-Shooting Section of your printer manual for further hints. The printer and your PC not being set to the same serial Parameters are the most common cause for this to happen.

A000030: If you use the serial port for printing or plotting you need to put the DOS MODE command into your AUTOEXEC.BAT file to set up the serial port before you run DANCAD3D.COM (tm) (if DOS MODE is in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file your serial port will be automatically set up each time you turn your computer on.)
