All of the Sky's digiboxes have the features and facilities. All digibox's are software upgradeable and Sky do this over the satellite link when necessary. It is recommended that you should attempt to get a digibox from Pace, Panasonic or Sony (no longer produce). However, Amstrads from DRX200 onwards are also very fast and reliable and Grundigs only have a power supply capacitor problem that can easily be fixed with a kit. This feature has been added to Sky Digital.

This is THE most frequently asked question. Here are my personal opinions, based on my own experience and what others have told me. It really depends on what you actually *want* since all models are built to the BskyB specification and have exactly the same menu structure (except "plus" model). Availability and cheapness of spare parts and service information: Pace. No other company encourages independent repair shops like Pace does.

Yes - as with most analogue systems there are (analogue) stereo audio outputs on the Digibox to connect to your hi-fi.

Technically, yes, but there are currently none of the "usual" radio channels available on Astra 2. This may change. There are more than 30 sound (music!)-only channels "in CD quality" but most of these are simply back-to-back music tracks in the style of your choice. BBC Radios 1/2/3/4/5/etc seem to have no plans to come onto this satellite.

Your Sky box has been designed to ensure it is safe to be left on standby at all times. It is useful to leave your Sky box plugged in as from time to time updated software is sent to your Sky box from the satellite, providing you with Sky's latest services or functions. These updates are not possible if your box is unplugged.

There are two things you can do. First you could try to let Sky upgrade your software by leaving your digibox on standby over night. The second way of upgrading is to force a upgrade by switching your digibox off at the mains for 1 minute and as you switch the Digital box back on hold down the BACK-UP and a message should be displayed on screen saying you are getting new software.

There are very few "other channels" broadcasting from 28.2'E which are not included in the EPG. The ones that are available change quite frequently so I don't attempt to list them on this site. I have mine connected to a motorised system but not by $ky directly, I called an authorised independent installer (apparently $ky wont do it for you, and tell you so via the digital hotline, but by the technical hotline 0990 102030, they say it is OK). I have a smart priority switch (£20) and have an MSS100IP pace analogue receiver, 80cm motorised dish and 0.4 LNB. It works fine.
