There is hardly ever an off season for the bands. In the fall, the marching band performs for football. The pep band plays at all university basketball games and selected soccer and lacrosse games. Our students are also involved in the University Wind Ensemble, Symphony Band, Concert Band, Campus Band, Jazz Ensemble, Philharmonia Orchestra, Winter Drumline, Queens Chorale, Voorhees Choir, and Glee Club. How much of a time commitment is Marching Band?

Marching Band rehearsals are held daily, Monday through Thursday, during the Fall semester. Rehearsals are held in the late afternoon/early evening following classes, and last approximately 90 minutes. Game weekends are very busy but rewarding, with a rehearsal and pep rally perfromance on Friday to morning rehearsal and the Concert On The Steps prior to game on Saturday. We do have a summer practice schedule in the summer before Band Camp begins, typically in the month of July. While these practices are optional, they are highly recommended when your child is not on vacation. These practices help students to get the music learned before Band Camp and not feel overwhelmed. This would include your musical instrument, your flag(s), drumsticks, mallets, etc. In other words, whatever will you be using on the marching field as part of the Marching Band needs to come to each practice, beginning with the first practice. Water---Water---Water---Staying hydrated during practices is important.
