When it is ready to be framed, it should be placed on archival (acid free) materials to protect the back of the work. Pastels are very sensitive. Firstly, they must be framed under glass by a framer who is experienced with pastels. Secondly, we strongly recommend that the pastel is framed under a UV-blocking type glass. The pastels will fade under direct light unless UV glass is used. Using a sunscreen that has zinc as an ingredient as well as offering protection from UVA and UVB rays is your best bet. The number of the SPF factor has nothing to do with potency. In other words, SPF 45 isn't stronger than SPF 15. It means the time in which to reapply. As it only takes 10 minutes for the sun's rays to burn the skin, the factor is times 10. For SPF 30 it would mean 30 x's 10 = 300 minutes or 5 hours before reapplication.
