I've had fairly good luck doing it in the following way. Since vinegar is the primary smell in pickles and it's acidic, we used a base to counteract it. First we scrubbed the bucket well, inside and out, with Dawn dish detergent. Most any sort will do. Then we filled the buckets with hot water and dissolved a cup of baking soda in each. Stir well, get the bucket as full as you can and put the top on. Put the bucket in the sun to keep it warm so the plastic pores stay open as much as possible. See similar questions...

A pickle will be relatively small, but slower, compared to using of the the dbm storage methods. All Downpour Derby buckets are mounted on weighted, springed platforms, which make the buckets return to "normal" position after spilling. However, the "loser" in each competition needs to finish pumping to then spill the remaining bucket, or reach up and tip it over manually, before the next competition. Perhaps a dab of something nice-smelling near or on the nose, tricks the nose. Try a flavored lipgloss, they're cheap, non-toxic and come in multi flavors. If I was desperate I'd put a bit of Vicks rub up inside/near my nostril. Not everyone likes the smell. It also has an added benefit, if your immune system is low from the chemo, other people often think the person with the Vicks has a cold and they stay away. The testing criteria for cushion and carpet is a pass/fail test. As long as CRI’s label is on the cushion sample, that means that the cushion meets a low level requirement as far as chemical emissions. Upon initial installation of carpet & cushion, have good ventilation and air exchange for approximately 48 to 72 hours. This will take care of most odors associated with the installation.
