This is a very common question since people often confuse the two. While their names may sound similar, these terms have very little in common. Chronometer is the term used to describe a highly-precise timepiece which, after rigorous testing, has received an official timing certificate from the official Swiss timing bureau Controle Officiel Suisse des Chronometres (COSC). Thus, it is a rating or accolade given for the watch's accuracy.

A chronograph is a stopwatch, which permits the measurement of a desired interval of time. A chronograph has start, stop and reset functions. BREITLING chronographs measure time intervals to 1/100, 1/50 or 1/10 of a second. To Chronograph or "Chrono" a gun is the act of using a chronograph to measure the velocity of the paintball leaving the muzzle of the gun. Some chronographs use light sensors while some use radar to measure the speed in feet per second (fps) as the ball is fired over the device. The standard accepted maximum velocity in paintball is 300 fps (although some fields have lower limits). At 300 fps, a paintball is said to produce a 9 foot-pound impact at point blank range. Automatic, or self-winding, means the watch has a self-winding mechanism which allows it to run on its own without batteries. The advantage is; batteries are not required. The disadvantage is; they should be serviced every few years to make sure they run smoothly. After a manual change of date you just turn the hands backwards onto position ‘10’ and then forwards past the number ‘12’. With each of these settings, the date moves forward 1 day! Pull the crown out to it's farthest position - on some models it will need to be unscrewed in an anti-clockwise direction first. Press the top button to set the large second hand, the lower button to adjust the small chronograph dial. Press both the buttons simultaneously and release - the second hand should perform a short (roughly 10 second) sweep. Press the top button to adjust the large second hand, use the lower button to adjust the the small chronograph dial. Once both are in the desired position, press both buttons once more to set (the second hand will perform a short sweep again).
