Your video is probably set to either 16-colors or 256-colors. We designed our pictures with 16-bit or 24-bit color in mind (64 thousand or 16.7 million colors), so when your browser has to squeeze this down to 256-colors, effects called dithering and banding occur. WinImages is an aspect-correct program. It reads the DPI (dots-per-inch) settings from an image file and uses them to set the ratio of width to height for display. Some programs do not set these values in the image file correctly, and as a result, the image will appear distorted.
