Can I mix ECC and non-ECC memory?
RAM FAQ for boards based on the i440bx chipsetYes, you can. But it makes little sense, because the ECC feauture won't get used on the memory which is ECC capable. You have to keep in mind too that often ECC memory is registered and your non-ECC memory probably not, so look for question "Can I mix registered memory with "normal" unbuffered memory?".
HOW TO TELL ECC, PARITY MEMORY FROM NON-ECC, NON- PARITY MEMORY?
Memory Upgrades for PC or MAC from Data Memory SystemsIf your system has ECC or parity memory the chips are evenly divisible by three. How do you know which one you have? One way is to look at the part numbers on the chips of your module. If each chip has the same part number, you have ECC. If one chip is different, you have parity. See similar questions...
CAN I MIX AND MATCH ECC, PARITY AND NON-ECC, NON-PARITY?
Memory Upgrades for PC or MAC from Data Memory SystemsWhen adding new memory, you need to match what is already in your system. Parity modules have an extra chip that detects if data was correctly read or written by the memory module, depending on the type of error. However, a parity module will not correct the error. ECC modules can detect double bit errors and correct single bit errors. Most motherboards that do not have an ECC function within the BIOS are still able to use a module with ECC, but the module will run in non-ECC mode. See similar questions...
HOW DO I KNOW IF I NEED PARITY, NON-PARITY, OR ECC, NON-ECC MEMORY?
Memory Upgrades for PC or MAC from Data Memory SystemsThe general rule of thumb in deciding what type of memory you need is to look at whats already installed in your system. To find out if you have ECC, parity, or non-ECC, non-parity memory, count the number of chips on the module. Divide the total number of chips by three. If you can evenly divide the number of chips by three, the module is ECC or parity, if not, then it is a non-ECC, non-parity module. See similar questions...
Can I mix RIMM modules of different frequencies, or ECC/non-ECC into my system?
Rambus - RDRAM® Frequently Asked QuestionsWhen mixing module frequency or error-correction code (ECC), most RDRAM systems will default to lowest frequency among the inserted modules. In addition, if any of the modules do not support ECC, then most system disables the ECC function. See similar questions...
Can you mix and match ECC and non-ECC modules?
SpecTek Select - WelcomeNo. When adding new memory, you need to match what is already in your system. ECC (error correcting code) modules have an extra chip that detects if the data was correctly read or written by the memory module. If the data wasn't properly written, the extra chip will correct it in many cases (depending on the type of error). Non-ECC (also called non-parity) modules do not have this error-detecting feature. What is ECC Memory and Should I Get it for my system?
Hardware Knowledgebase - Top Rated FAQsAns: ECC stands for "Error Checking and Correction". It's a technology that allows the memory to not only detect memory errors but also correct them on the fly. Some of us who have been around computers longer may remember the old parity memory that used to be on sale at a slight premium over regular memory. See similar questions...
WHAT IS THE PERFORMANCE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ECC, PARITY AND NON-ECC, NON-PARITY?
Memory Upgrades for PC or MAC from Data Memory SystemsECC (error checking and correcting) memory performs double bit detection and single bit correction. This means that if you have a single bit memory error, the chipset and memory will find and repair the error on the fly without you knowing that it happened. If you have a double bit memory error, it will detect and report it. Non-ECC, non-parity memory, on the other hand, has no error detection and correction capabilities. Using ECC decreases your PCs performance by about 2%. See similar questions...
Should I buy ECC or non-ECC RAM?
Dell PowerEdge 400SC - WikiFAQ - Answers to Frequently Asked...It was published in 1998 (EE Times) that a approximately 1 bit error occurs in 256MB of ram every month. RAM has increased in speed significantly since then, but manufacturing processes have also improved. It's hard to say what the current error rate is but let's assume that it's about the same. It doesn't matter if you reboot every hour, as long as you run your computer 24h/day, the rate at which a bit error will occur is approximately once a week (if you have 1G of RAM). Will non-ECC RAM work?
Dell PowerEdge 400SC - WikiFAQ - Answers to Frequently Asked...The Difference between ECC and Non-ECC RAM is the pysical layout of the chip and the ECC logic chip. the Physical layout of the chip is what makes non-ECC RAM not fit in ECC slots. Some ECC will fit in Non-ECC slots, and vice versa. Please let me know what modules you've had success with and I'll update the FAQ. See similar questions...
CAN I MIX REGISTERED AND UNREGISTERED MEMORY?
Memory Upgrades for PC or MAC from Data Memory SystemsWhile most PCs will only accept unregistered SDRAM, there are some that accept registered SDRAM. Keep in mind that when you install registered SDRAM, all of the modules installed in your PC must be registered, because unregistered and registered modules are not interchangeable See similar questions...
CAN I MIX BUFFERED AND UNBUFFERED MEMORY?
Memory Upgrades for PC or MAC from Data Memory SystemsThe buffered and unbuffered modules are not interchangeable and even use slightly different printed circuit boards (PCBs). If you try to install the wrong type, the first notch on the bottom of the module will be offset. You can determine if the module is buffered by looking at the leads next to the first notch. If the leads are evenly spaced, the module is buffered. If the leads are not evenly spaced (a larger PCB area next to the lead) the module is unbuffered. See similar questions...
What is the ECC?
CSU | SEIR | FAQThe Electronic Core Collection is defined as that part of the collection that is program-driven, used actively for instruction, and in high demand. The rationale for creation of an Electronic Core Collection (ECC) for the CSU is based on three principles: equality of access, support of core curricular programs and cost efficiency. The primary criterion for the inclusion of resources in the electronic Core Collection is the support of the common core of CSU curricula. See similar questions...
How do I use IT Assistant to reset my memory error correction code (ECC) errors?
Frequently Asked Questions: Dell OpenManage IT Assistant Use...When IT Assistant detects that a memory slot contains memory that has an ECC error count greater than zero, an edit () icon appears next to that memory slot on the Status tab of the systems window. Click the edit icon to open a dialog box that enables you to reset the ECC count. IT Assistant 6.x integrates the launching of the DRAC II Web Console and the Array Manager console in-context from the Status tab. See similar questions...
Can I use ECC memory on the P4EAX and P4GAX boards?
Frequently Asked Questions | Frequently Asked Questions Corv...Answer: No. These boards support only unbuffered non-ECC DDR memories. Using ECC DIMMs may damage the board due to higher power requirements. See similar questions...
Are the chemicals in mix-at-home recipes non-toxic?
Questions and Answers about Our ProductsAll chemicals, including common table salt (NaCl), are toxic at some exposure. Toxicity is the level of exposure at which something can be harmful. Commercially formulated cleaning products are evaluated for both intended and unintended exposures, so that non-toxic levels of exposure can be clearly identified. Labels provide use directions and safety information that contribute to the safe use of the product. See similar questions...
What controllerless / non-hardware ECC modems are NOT RPI?
Zoom Telephonics: Zoom External V.34 FaxmodemI'm still confused about RPI. Can you explain the different RPI terms and drivers again? All users are in one of three situations today. Before going through this question, find out if you have RPI or RPI+, and whether or not you are you using WinRPI or not. Then, let's go through each one. These users should obtain the WinRPI driver from their modem vendor. This will allow them to get ECC with any Windows application. See similar questions...
