Both email and discussion areas in WebCT are Java based programs. The error message you get will indicate if it is a Java problem or something else. Your email size might be too big and thus your mass email has been capped. There is a size cap of 70 MB on all emails within the University and if you send an email with an attachment to your students, the size will multiply.
