There are literally trillions of possible ways of lacing an average shoe, although many of these are hopelessly tangled messes. Realistically, there's still a multitude of practical combinations, of which you'll find a number of the more useful examples in my Lacing Shoes section, each with their own benefits such as ease of use, speed, appearance, comfort, security, strength, wear and tear, length of lace used, etc.

Crooked shoelace bows are usually a sign that the knot has been tied with an un-balanced "Granny Knot". This doesn't just apply to crooked shoelaces; it's also true for crooked bows on dresses, crooked hair ribbon bows, even crooked wedding invitation bows. My Slipping Shoelace Knots page shows how to reverse your Starting Knot in order to change your knot into a balanced "Reef" or "Square" knot whose bow sits perfectly straight.

It's rare for shoelaces to be the exact length; most seem to be excessively long nowadays. The best solution is to figure out the Correct Length, then either replace the shoelaces or shorten them yourself and Replace the Aglets. There are alternatives that let you keep your existing shoelaces. Choose a different Lacing Method that fits the length of your shoelaces. For long laces, use a different Shoelace Knot that consumes more lace, such as many people do with the Double Shoelace Knot.

The plastic or metal sleeves at the end of shoelaces are called "aglets" (or "aiglets"). Besides making an interesting trivia or crossword puzzle question, aglets have several functions: They prevent the lace ends from fraying, they make the laces easier to hold, and they make them easier to pass through the eyelets. The word "aglet" (or "aiglet") comes from Old French "aguillette" (or "aiguillette"), which is the diminutive of "aguille" (or "aiguilee"), meaning "needle".

Let your soap dry out between uses, by putting your soap on some kind of a soap dish that allows air to circulate around the bar. A 'proper' soap dish will either raise the bar up for air to circulate from beneath, or contain air holes for drainage of water below the soap. If you store your soap in the little alcove built into most shower stalls and tub surrounds, the shower spray will continually soak your soap. You will literally see your soap's glycerin, and your money, go down the drain.

The only effective method for extending the life a strings during play is the insertion of little plastic pads at the cross points between main and cross strings, especially in the area of the sweet spot. These inserts work by reducing the notching effect that the crosses have on the mains. You have seen professional tennis players insert these during matches. The most popular inserts are made by Babolat and are called ElastoCross.

Golf grips get a great deal of physical abuse. They are handled round after round, swing after swing - often times season after season. They are exposed to ultraviolet light from the sun; intense heat in the trunk of the car; ozone from the atmosphere; and dirt, oil and perspiration from human skin. In most cases they are seldom washed or cared for in any way. Grips are meant to last, but they are not made of steel.

Rebonding wave will last six months to one year. Use shampoos and conditioners that help neutralise the chemical and add nourishment to your hair, like Infiltrate Shampoo and Conditioner, as frequently as your hair requires. Apply infiltrate treatment to help make the hair look fuller. To dry, just use your hands, no need for brushes or blowdryers. Retouching is not required as the more the hair grows, the more it becomes beautiful and the wave becomes loose.

A Permagloss cures by exposure to moisture in the air. Keeping its exposure to air at a minimum is the only remedy. We are currently looking at other packaging, in an effort to ease this problem. Packaging in cans looks promising for the future.

The ribbon corset in pattern #113 is best made the length it is. The others can be lengthened or shortened on the line designated. Remember you may need to use a different length busk and bones depending on how much you change the length.

Conscientious aftercare is the first step to long lasting color. One of the surest ways to fade color is to expose your tattoo to the sun. The powerful rays of the sun will lighten the colors of posters in windows, photos on sunny walls, clothing; and tattoos. A fresh tattoo should be kept form direct sun for as long as possible, 3-4 weeks is best. After healing, your tattoo should always be protected from the sun with clothing or a strong sun block.

We recommend removing the ribbon and snipping the stems of the flowers. Put them in warm water. We think they look FABULOUS in a teacup and saucer!

After every use, take out the Gasket, clean it and hang on a peg, till you use it again. Do not leave it in the lid. Reverse it after each use. The life of the gasket can be increased by slightly stretching it. This also checks the little leakage of steam that may occur initially.

Handmade soaps are rich in glycerin, a humectant--water attractor. This is good because it is soothing to your skin, but bad because it means the bar is softer and more quickly used up. The number one way to make your bar last longer is to protect it from water. Go ahead and use it, of course! But when you are done, put it in a soap dish that will allow air to pass and the bottom to dry out. If it sits in a puddle, it will be gone very soon.

Maintenance! Check the fluid level periodically, repair any leaks/problems promptly, service the unit on a regular basis, and add an auxiliary cooler if the vehicle is used for towing, commercial, or high ambient temperature climates. Synthetic fluid may benefit some applications by lowering operating temperature resulting in a longer life, but not all transmissions can use synthetic fluid. Check with your local ATRA shop for their advice to your specific application and needs.

Fragrance lasts longer on some people than on others because of differences in our skin (oily or dry) and in our PH levels. To achieve a longer effect, try layering your fragrance. Using the fragrance bath gel, (if the company offers one), then the moisturizer or powder, and then the Eau de Toilette, Eau de Parfum or Eau de Cologne, will usually have a longer lasting effect.

I'm afraid that I cannot stretch or shrink my moulds! Columns are cast in three parts and the shaft can be cut by dipping in water for a few seconds and then using a fine tooth saw gently to cut through. If you want to make the column longer I can supply extra shaft on request, or column plinths can be used to get extra height. ie. CP1, CP2,CP3, CP4, CP5. The same applies to some pilasters but the half columns are cast in one piece and require more cutting.
