If 50 cc or less, these vehicles are not motorcycles by driver license law definition, ? 322.01(25), so a motorcycle endorsement is not required per ? 322.03(4); however, to operate them on streets and roadways, you must be at least 16 years old and hold at least a regular operator (Class E) or "Motorcycle Only" driver license.

Most 49cc (engine size) powered motor scooters will go between 30 and 40 miles per hour. And some may go faster than that, and some may go a little less. Remember, speed is a relative thing. Weight of the bike, weight carried, incline, wind resistance, road conditions and overall motor scooter maintenance all have an effect on the speed your motor scooter will go. The legal age to drive this type of vehicle is the same as for a moped with the rider required to have a provisional licence and have taken a CBT test (Compulsory Basic Training). It is illegal for these machines to be ridden along pathways and all riders must wear a helmet.
