One supplement to the koala's usual diet seems to be dirt. The koala may occasionally eat dirt to adjust deficiencies of minerals in its system. They also occasionally eat bark, flowers and buds of certain eucalypt.

There are approx. 600 species of eucalypt in Australia ? koalas are known to feed on approx. 40-50 species depending on locality. Of this 40-50 they prefer to limit their diet to about 10. The leaves from most trees are too tough and fibrous to be of much use in our diet. Also it is inconvenient harvesting young green leaves from tall trees and they are far too fibrous by the time they fall. Despite these limits, there are a number of tropical and sub-tropical trees and perennial shrubs whose leaves are eaten locally. These include Indian mulberry, Sesbania grandiflora, Acacia nilotica, Cassia obtusifolia, and Baobab.

Across their range in Australia they are found in Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia and are NOT considered endangered but are listed as vulnerable. However, some local isolated populations of koala could be considered endangered due to habitat loss through housing development. Their food trees are threatened and therefore they could face local extinction.

Surprisingly, no. Anatolians tend to be "easy keepers", and an adult Anatolian will eat between 40 to 60 pounds of premium quality dog chow a month. As a puppy, an Anatolian should be fed a premium puppy food for the first year. Some breeders will use puppy food for the first 18 months, and then switch to a good adult food.

The female reaches sexual maturity at the end of her second year or later and physical maturity at the end of her fourth year. Males - about 3 years sexual maturity and reach physical maturity at 4 years.

In the Wild ? females up to 15-18 years; males 10-15 years. In captivity both can live 15+ years. Legend has it that a koala in Queensland lived to 28 yrs.

Koalas sleep approx. 18 hours out of 24. This is an evolutionary strategy to conserve their energy as the Eucalypt leaf is so low in nutrients/energy value.

Place curbside in paper/biodegradable bags, which will be picked up from October to December, usually Thursday and Friday as men and trucks are available. There is no set schedule.

The appearance of black areas on the surface of the leaves, following a hot sunny day may be the result of sunburn. Exposure to direct mid-afternoon sunlight during the late spring through early fall will scorch the leaves of some orchids. Increase the shading or move the plant to a less sunny location. If the blackened area increases in size, this is an indication of bacterial or fungal disease. Cut off the diseased area with a sharp, sterile tool(i.e., razor blade or knife).

Dead lower leaves are easily removed by simply pressing down at the base while supporting the base of the plant with your other hand. Leaves that have become mostly yellow or crispy brown need to be removed from the plant. This can usually be done easily by putting your thumb on top of the leaf close to the plant, and while supporting the plant just above the leaf with your other hand, pushing down gently and with care, don't force it.
