Danger, of course, is relative. People often try to compare the risks of skydiving to other activities, but this is difficult to do because of the different duration, frequency and/or number of participants. It is difficult, for example to compare the risks or SCUBA diving and skydiving. A skydive lasts about a minute, while a SCUBA dive last about 45 minutes, depending upon depth.

There is a risk of injury or death while participating in skydiving. There were 3 million parachute jumps performed Nationwide in 2004 and there were 21 people killed skydiving in 2004. 19 of those fatalities were licensed jumpers outside the control of a skydiving instructor or school. Without special safety precautions, the laser can be dangerous. However, we ensure patient as well as health care worker safety by: 1. providing safety glasses for everyone in the room; 2. using the lowest effective settings possible; and 3. only allowing the doctor to perform the procedure as per the State Board of Medical Examiners. Skydiving as a sport is self-regulated, meaning that skydivers voluntarily follow a set of basic safety requirements set by the U.S. Parachute Association.
