Informal consultation is an optional process that is designed to help the applicant and the action agency determine whether formal consultation is needed. It includes all discussions, correspondence, etc., between the Services, the action agency, and the applicant, and has no specified timeframe for completion.

No training or support to either the mentor or protégé about how to build productive relationships or manage communication breakdowns.

Mindfulness strategies are also helpful with overall stress reduction. Mindfulness helps individuals to learn to live in the present moment, as opposed to living in the future (worry) and the past (regret).

The Mindfulness for Beginners Class is a class that teaches Vipassana Meditation and basic concepts of Buddhism. It's 6 weeks long with a weekly class. Participants are asked to practice short stretches of meditation by themselves at home. The MBSR class is an 8-week program that is secular and includes different Mindfulness practices (as the Body Scan and Mindful Yoga) as well as the traditional sitting Meditation.

During this course we learn a variety of meditation practices and practice them at home with audio tapes. We also learn about bringing mindfulness into our daily lives, emphasizing practices that help us to be more present with our children. We share our experiences with the practices in class each week, talking with others about what we have discovered about being in the present moment with ourselves and our children.

A combination of all of these approaches will be used, but always in the appropriate child/dyslexic-friendly manner.
