What is Document Object Model (DOM)?

SMX Technical Info
The Document Object Model, commonly referred to as DOM, is another by-product of the W3C recommendations for XML standards (or any content with similar structure, such as HTML, SGML, etc.). A DOM uses standard syntax to describe a document as a hierarchical series of objects. It identifies each element in an XML document as an individual object, and defines the hierarchical relationship of those objects within the document.

What is the document object model?

comp.lang.javascript FAQ - 9.91 - 2008-01-19
This is the collection of objects provided by each browser. Basically, any object in the window hierarchy is part of the DOM. This means that document.writeln(), for example, is not a javascript method but is, in fact, a method provided by the DOM. The DOM has been standardised by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C); however, like all W3C standards, browser support is not yet complete.

This is a work in progress. If you are reading a local copy, the master copy might be newer. This document uses are relative links; if they don't work, please use the master copy. Please feel free to ask questions and/or provide answers; send email to the Docutils-users mailing list. Project members should feel free to edit the source text file directly.

Why use such a heavily object-oriented model?

IEC 1499 FAQ
The degree of object orientation used in IEC 61499 is necessary in order to achieve the required level of distributability of encapsulated, reusable software modules (function blocks). Not necessarily; a full object-oriented implementation is not required by the IEC 61499 model - only that the externally visible behaviors of a compliant device conform to the requirements for the device compliance class as defined in subclause 5.2 of IEC 61499-1.

Does OneNote have an Object Model or programming interface?

Microsoft OneNote Frequently Asked Questions

Vold does not mount my memory stick with pcfs filesystem on it. What is the problem ?

Solaris Ready USB FAQ
p0 is the entire disk, including the boot sectors and all the partitions. The p1-p4 are the four possible fdisk partitions. Internally these are the 16th-20th positions in the slice table for the disk. This allows you to do a newfs on p0 and use the entire disk as a file system. The p0:M method is handled within the pcfs code, where 'M' is 'c' for a primary FAT partition and 'd'-'z' for logical FAT partitions within an extended partition.

Can the object move?

In Nomine Frequently Asked Questions - Celestials
Also depends on the object. Anything designed to bend or move will be able to do so. So a door could open and close, a car could drive around, a ball could roll, a puppet could walk around. But a candlestick couldn't move around on its own, since it is inflexible. Neither could a hammer lift itself to hammer a nail (or whatever). Certain Songs can give movement abilities, however. For example, Numious Corpus: Wings and that toaster vessel . . .

Document/View? Why not Model/View/Controller (MVC)?

Bakery FAQ
Document/View is a specialization of MVC, in which the Model is the Document, and the View and the Controller are combined into the View. In MVC the Controller takes care of user interaction with the View - how the view is changed. Because most GUI's contain widgets or controls which already take care of user interaction (e.g. You can click on a combo box to change it's contents) I don't see any sense in having a separate controller.

Why not use a general-purpose distributed object model, like DCOM or CORBA?

IEC 1499 FAQ
Implementation of the features specified for these information-technology models would be too expensive, and their performance would almost always be too slow, for use in a distributed real-time industrial-process measurement and control system (IPMCS). There is no standard, easily understood graphical model for representing the interconnections of events and data among these kinds of objects in distributed applications.

How do I support a different object model?

jaxen: universal Java XPath engine - FAQ
The only thing required is an implementation of the interface org.jaxen.Navigator. Not all of the interface is required, and a default implementation, in the form of org.jaxen.DefaultNavigator is also provided. Since many of the XPath axes can be defined in terms of each other (for example, the ancestor axis is merely a the parent recursively applied), only a few low-level axis iterators are required to initially get started.

Do I have to use Dreamstime's Model Release document?

Frequently Asked Questions - Dreamstime
No, you can ask the model to sign your own Model Release, IF it contains all required information as our own MR document and all needed legal paragraphs. The MR document can carry your company's logo, but we don't accept documents signed specifically for other agencies or that carry their logo. This probably happened if the files were saved as CMYK instead of RGB. Please save your files as RGB and re-upload.

The current focus of the industry is on conceptual model and logical theory (such as OWL).

Can the object speak?

In Nomine Frequently Asked Questions - Celestials
Depends on the object, much like when a Kyriotate inhabits a living vessel. A rock won't have much chance of communicating, and a lawn mower could rev its engine suggestively, but a radio or a TV could speak with no problems.
