Color laser printers produce a vivid, natural sheen image on quality paper (both matte & glossy). However, the glossy has a distinct shine even where the label remains white. It's usually a matter of personal preference as to which will work for your chips. However, glossy is recommended for actual photos or intricately detailed designs with multiple colors.

Dilute the varnish with additional solvent before using. The thinner the coating, the lower the gloss. Brush the varnish as it dries. When the varnish is starting to set up, if you continue to brush it then you will microscopically roughen the surface and it will be less glossy. Add Cold Wax Medium to the varnish.
