The number of students admitted each semester is dependant on the availability of clinical placement. This may change each semester. Typically, we have enough space to admit 14 to 25 students each fall and spring.

Applicants to the MPA program are evaluated on undergraduate academic performance, GRE scores, letters of recommendation, work experience, activities indicating an interest in public management/public policy, and other experiences that may indicate the ability to complete a professional program. Each student is evaluated individually. The student's entire portfolio is examined.

The MPA program is a professional program for students interested in public management/public policy issues. Students take courses in public management, budgeting and finance, human resource policy, program evaluation, economics, statistics, and other management-related courses.

The number of students admitted depends upon the number of qualified candidates who apply to the program. We expect to admit 25-30 students per year. There are no specific prerequisite courses required for admission. However, we do expect prospective students to have a strong foundation in a core disciplinary area, such as engineering, materials science, physics, or mathematics.

Applications are accepted for fall admission only. Applications are due early in January and the interview process is generally complete by March.

The requirements generally are the same -- completion of all first year JD courses, the professional responsibility and upperclass legal writing requirements, and the JD residency requirement. Typically, a JD student needs 85 credits to graduate. However, 6 or 9 credits of masters coursework (depending on the program) will be counted toward those 85 credits.

Yes, both full-time and part-time students are enrolled in the MPA program. Core courses are offered in the evening to accommodate part-time students.

There is not a specified list of courses that students must complete before they begin the MPA program. However, students are expected to have a basic understanding of computers (word processing and spreadsheets) and the American political processes at the local, state, and national levels (how a bill becomes law, the roles of the three branches of government, etc.).

Students who finish two three-credit hour courses in each of the Fall and Spring semesters and the Summer sessions conclude their coursework in two years and one semester/session. If a student completes one three-credit hour course in each of Fall and Spring Semesters, and takes no courses during the Summer sessions, he or she will fulfill the MPA degree requirements in six years plus one semester/session.

All students now begin the SIRLS master’s program by taking IRLS 504, Foundations of Library and Information Services, as their first course. In 2006, IRLS 504 is scheduled in Winter Session, Summer Session I and Summer Session II.

Students are admitted into the PN program Spring and Autumn quarters. Students admitted into the Spring quarter cohort will have their first practical nursing courses the following Summer quarter; students admitted into the Autumn cohort will have their first nursing courses the following Winter quarter.

Students must complete 42 credit hours of coursework. Of these 42 credit hours, 30 hours are core courses and 12 hours are in an area of specialization.

It is very hard to determine how many students will be admitted in any given year. This largely depends on the quality of the applicant pool.
