The GRE is only one component of the application. Your undergraduate scholastic record, letters of recommendation, and particularly the personal statement—why you want to study sociology—are all equally important and jointly evaluated by the admissions committee.

Each year, from approximately 250 completed applications, our admissions committee is limited to selecting a total M.A. and Ph.D. class of approximately 30 students. There are no specific undergraduate course requirements for admission to graduate study, but courses such as introductory psychology, statistics, and experimental psychology and/or research methods are preferred. Drexel does not require GRE scores for any of its online engineering programs except for the MS in Software Engineering IST track. There are no minimum test score requirements. As a reference, however, the average GRE scores for the entering class of Fall 2006 were Verbal: 566, Quantitative: 760, and Analytical: 4.4. General GRE scores are required: your application will absolutely not be considered without them. The Subject GRE policy is more flexible.

If your GRE scores are less than 5 years old, they are still acceptable. If your GRE scores are 5 years old or older, you must retake the GRE. In general, we look for at least a B undergraduate average, but the overall record is of primary importance. Individual programs may be interested in how an applicant did in specific courses, whether the undergraduate background course work was adequate for the program, and whether the applicant showed a pattern of improvement during undergraduate study. Yes, if you are not invited to interview with the MSTP, your application will be returned to the main Admissions Office to be included with the medical school general applicant pool for screening and interview consideration. From that point on, the medical school Admissions Office will handle your application.

For foreign applications, we require a TOEFL score of 600. While your GRE score is important, we have no specific cut-off for GRE scores, and consider the GRE score to be just one part of your overall application. All applicants must submit a GRE score to be considered for fellowships or graduate teaching assistantships.

On the TOEFL, the minimum acceptable score is 580, with a minimum score of 4.5 on the Test of Written English (TWE). On the computer-based TOEFL, the minimum score is 237, with a minimum score of 4.5 on the essay structure writing component. On the Internet-based TOEFL, the minimum score is 92. Normally, minimum required GRE scores are 600 on the Quantitative Section and 3.5 on the Analytical Writing Section.

For a MSE application, they can be old. For PhD applicants, they must be new enough that ETS still considers them valid and will provide an official score report. Currently, the ETS sets this limit at five years.

We recommend a minimum GPA of 3.4, and GRE scores in the 600 range on the Verbal and Quantitative sections. Note that these are recommendations and not requirements. If you are not able to take the GRE Psychology Subject test, or if you are concerned that the test results will arrive too late to be included in your file, the Admissions Committee will place greater weight on your Psychology GPA.

Students entering the program with financial support have average GRE general exam scores of 612 verbal, 780 quantitative, and 4.8 analytical.

There are no 'cut-off' scores for the GRE examination, which is evaluated in the context of your entire application package. The minimum acceptable TOEFL score is 550 (paper-based); 213 (computer-based); and the IBT is still being evaluated in a case-by-case basis. Note: TOEFL scores are required of international students whose native language is not English and whose undergraduate degree was obtained at a non-English speaking university.

We're looking for the best writers, so we rarely admit students who score below the 85th percentile on the verbal and analytical sections of the general GRE exam. Scores above the 90th percentile help greatly. On the quantitative section of the general exam, as well as on the advanced subject test, we're looking for competence in math and in a given field of study. A low score will hurt your chances more than a high score will help.

We do not give probabilities or chances of acceptance. In any case, it would not be fair to answer this question based on just scores. The Admissions Committee takes the entire application into consideration when reviewing it and making admission decisions.

We can make no preliminary evaluation based on one or two qualifications. The Admissions Committee carefully reviews the entire application (recommendations, essay, grades, test scores, previous research experience, etc.) in making its decisions.
