Every time a person with a valid Residence Visa or RRV enters New Zealand, they are given a Residence Permit. That permit entitles the holder to remain in New Zealand, indefinitely. That person will always be in New Zealand legally, whether their RRV is valid or not, whether they are the holder of a valid passport or not.
