For most all Moto Guzzi's we recommend Valvoline multi-viscosity 20/50 engine oil for the summer (55 degrees or above) and 10/40 for winter use (below 55 degrees). The transmission and rear end use Hypoid 80/90. Transmission takes about 1 qt and the rear end about 1/2 qt. Engine takes approx. 3 qts. It's most likely that the seal around your intake manifold is leaking. While it was originally thought to be the intake manifold gasket itself leaking, it's now found to be the sealant being used. The reason is a gasket is only applied to the left and right sides of the manifold while the front and back is sealed with RTV sealant. All engines do burn oil, which is emitted again through the exhaust. The cylinders are oil-wet, fuel is burned, and so it burns the oil on the cylinder walls too. It's a simple as that. When it burns 1 litre every 1500 km you can start to worry, and when it burns one litre every 1000 km, the oil seal piston and/or cylinder is worn (one or all four). It goes the other way around too. The current standard engine and its transmission is necessary since most internal combustion engine cannot generate enough torque at low rpm. So at low speed, instead of turning the engine at low rpm, it has to turn at high rpm to move the vehicle therefore, needs a transmission to gear down. The MYT Engine, due to 16 firings in one revolution, generates enough torque to move the vehicle at any low rpm, and as a result, a transmission is not required in a vehicle powered by the engine.
