We recommend using Saline Solution to clean your piercing, or boiled salt water. (But ask for your piercer's advice on making a good saltwater cleaner.) Always clean and dry your piercing with cotton. Disinfectants are often too strong or harsh to clean a healthy piercing with and sometimes cause aggravation. If you suspect you have an infection you should feel free to consult your piercer and G.P. A zinc supplement will often help boost your immune system, helping your body heal itself.

The lack of ability to sterilise the ear piercing guns is one of the issues of concern about such equipment. Blood can aerosolise (become airborne in essentially microscopic particles) and contaminate the gun. If any part of the stud touches any part of the contaminated gun, there is the possibility of transmitting a disease-causing micro organism.

The alcohol is present in the remedy in order to keep it fresh for many years. The amount of alcohol in one dose is extremely small (less than 0.05% when diluted as directed) and should therefore pose no problem. However, if you are still concerned, follow the directions of our Flower and Gem Essences used in pregnancy and dilute the drops in water which has just boiled, allow to cool and then drink. This will allow all the alcohol to evaporate off the essence without reducing its effectiveness.

Alcohol weakens and dehydrates the body and thins the blood -- it is recommended that alcohol not be combined with suspension. Under the Health Board regulation concerning infection control (Vol. 25S3 dated July 1999), "The ear piercing gun should only be used for piercing the fleshy part of the ear lobes. The gun is not suitable for piercing other parts of the body such as navel, the nasal cartilage (nostril) or the cartilage areas of the ear. The action of the ear piercing gun can damage tissue and create a risk of later infection.

Bensalkonium Chloride is a good all-purpose antibiotic cleanser and soother for a fresh piercing. You can find it in over-the-counter products like Bactine ® by "Bayer ® and Ear Care ® by "Inverness ®" at most pharmacies. You can also use natural sea salt (not table salt) after a couple of weeks to help flush out trapped bacteria and alleviate soreness around the surrounding skin tissue.

A toothbrush will remove plaque bacteria that can lead to decay. Any soft-bristled toothbrush with a small head, preferably one designed specifically for infants, should be used at least once a day at bedtime.

Yes - FireAde 2000 is very simple to clean up. In fact FireAde 2000 enhances the clean up process after the fire. FireAde 2000 breaks up sooty, greasy and oily residue leaving a clean surface after use. No scrubbing or other special cleaning efforts are required to remove FireAde 2000. No - Dry Powder Chemicals leave a very messy residue. Clean up is very time consuming and can be very costly. Electronic equipment and engines can be destroyed by Dry Powder Chemicals.

A normal toothbrush can help but a tongue scraper will more effectively dislodge and remove bacteria and food debris.

Re-usable ear piercing guns cannot be sterilized between uses. It is even hard to properly clean them between customers. Therefore they are not at all hygienic and can be dangerous.

Generally no; ear piercing jewelry (ie. the gold hoops and studs that the mall ear-piercing industry uses) are not designed to work in body piercings. They are usually the wrong size both in length and gauge, are often flimsy, and are often made of lower grade materials. It's strongly urged that you make the small investment of decent quality jewelry.

Unfortunately, no. Since we use only titanium jewelry for initial piercings, we will not use any jewelry for a piercing that we cannot guarantee the quality of. It is impossible to tell the quality of the jewelry or what metal it contains by looking at it. Even if the person who sold you the jewelry originally told you it was titanium, we cannot guarantee this to be true.

First, there is no way to sterilize piercing guns. Most guns are made of plastic and will melt under the extreme heat and pressure of an autoclave (the piece of equipment used to sterilize implements) and chemical sterilization has not been proven to kill all blood borne pathogens; this is extremely dangerous since fluid micro-spray (microscopic particles of tissue, blood and other body fluids) might be present on the gun after a piercing.
