Cremation is the reduction of the body to bone fragments by the use of extreme heat. The cremation process itself takes approximately 2-1/2 hours at a temperature between 1,600-2,000 degrees fahrenheit. Most people are under the impression that what is left is ashes. This is incorrect. Although cremains are referred to as ashes, they are actually small bone fragments that have been reduced to a granular substance.
