Diagnostic laparoscopy and hernia repairs can be done under local anaesthesia but the other procedures will require general anaesthesia.

Local Anaesthesia numbs a small (localised) area of tissue where a minor procedure is done. In all minor surgery cases, with the exclusion of dental work, local anaesthesia is given in conjunction with twilight anaesthesia (sedation). General Anesthesia is a method used to stop pain being felt during a procedure or surgery. It affects the entire body and makes the person unconscious.
