What is the difference between a Satin finish, a Semi Gloss finish and a High Gloss finish?

Welcome to Knox Hardwood Flooring
The Satin finish is a matte finish and the easiest to maintain. Because it has a low sheen, it is very forgiving insofar as showing scratches, dents, and wear and tear over time. The Semi Gloss finish has some shine and is a little harder to maintain in that it will show scratches, dents and wear and tear sooner. The High Gloss finish is the hardest to maintain in that it shows everything - dust, dirt, scratches, dents, and wear and tear in general the quickest. See similar questions...

How do we get a high gloss when buffing?

FOOTSIES PRESENTS STRATA
Make sure not to graduate too quickly from a 180 file to the white block. Try using the white block buffer a little longer than seems necessary. Be sure to wipe all grit and dust from the nail and the 3-way buffer, as even the smallest amount of dust will prevent a high gloss. Cuticle oil may be helpful. There is a process called “honing” that gives the stone a more matte finish yet retains its smooth feel. A drop-in sink sits on top of the cutout in your granite counter while an undermount sink sits beneath the cutout. There is generally an extra polishing charge required in preparing a granite countertop for an undermount sink. See similar questions...

Can CERAM-KOTE coatings achieve a high gloss finish?

Due to the heavy loading of ceramic particles and solids into our CERAM-KOTE coatings, a true high gloss cannot be achieved with CERAM-KOTE epoxy coatings. Only CERAM-KOTE urethanes, although loaded with ceramics as well, can achieve high gloss. A semi-gloss may be achieved with proper application and curing techniques (CERAM-KOTE 2000 and CERAM-KOTE 99 formulas have better gloss retention than CERAM-KOTE 54?). See similar questions...

How do you clean a varnique semi-gloss finish butcher block?

Butcher Block Counter FAQs
Varnique semi-gloss finished butcher blocks clean up easily with mild soap and warm water. Varnique is impervious to most household chemicals, though it is wise to avoid the use of harsh chemicals or harsh detergents that may damage the finish. Varnique, though less permeable to water than natural oil, is not impermeable; therefore, it is wise to clean up liquid spills on your butcher block counter as soon as they appear. Laminating resin is greenish blue in color and is the basic first coat of resin; it is used to adhere the cloth to the blank (this resin will only dry tacky and not sandable!) Sanding or hot coat resin or filler coat is almost the same thing; it is lam resin with surfacing agent (styrene monomer and paraffin wax) mixed in. Paint it on the laminated surfboard to fill the fiberglass weave and make the board sandable. Gloss/finish Resin is pink in color and is the final coat of resin. See similar questions...
