We do not have a chime that is exceptionally loud. We do, however, have a wireless stroboscopic chime for the hearing impaired. In addition to the chime ringing, a strobe light flashes to announce your visitor's arrival. This is a plug in chime, and can be moved around the house with you.

Yes, an amplifier/headphone combination that will produce sounds up to 130 decibels is available for adults with severe hearing loss. A special application form is necessary and must be signed by a physician or licensed audiologist. The application has details about the possible need for a doctor's permission and what special precautions are necessary to prevent injury.

We currently do not have closed-captioning on our video products. We encourage you to take advantage of interpreters from local state departments at no charge or for a minimal fee.

People who are hard-of-hearing also need the protection that smoke detectors provide. Smoke detectors for the hearing impaired are smoke detectors that have a strong strobe light attached to the circuitry. When the smoke detector sense the smoke, the strobe light begins blinking. If you are installing one of these smoke detectors, follow the instructions on where to locate this detector.

For some of our courses, we do. For others, we are working to add them. However, for all classes, we have complete text notes that can be read along with the slide images. If you have special needs such as this, please let us know and we will verify that the course you desire has slide notes viewable.

The Broward Center, in partnership with the Fort Lauderdale Broadway Series, is pleased to offer our patrons with hearing difficulties the wonder of live Opened Captioned Performances of touring Broadway shows. These special shows take place during the second Saturday matinee performance of each Broadway touring show. We place a hold on certain seats for our patrons requiring access to the captioning board. These seats are available through our Call Center or the Box Office.

These are subtitles specifically designed for viewers who may have trouble clearly defining particular dialogue or sound when viewing a DVD. Such subtitles streams not only reproduce dialogue in text on the screen but also give visual clues to sonic events taking place on the screen. For example, if the sound of a telephone can be heard, [phone rings] or similar text will be displayed.

Amazon Unbox videos currently available for your computer or your TiVo DVR do not contain subtitles or closed captioning. We hope to make this feature available in future releases. Since some computers do not perform well when their hard drive reaches full capacity, the Amazon Unbox video player will display a "Disk Full" message when a computer's hard drive has less than 1 gigabyte of free space available.

One performance of each show in our season is American Sign Language interpreted by an experienced and certified interpreter from NTID/RIT. The national NOAA Weather Radio web site offers a list of the SAME codes for all U.S. states and surrounding territories. A toll-free number (1-888-NWR-SAME or 1-888-697-7263) is also available so that radio owners can get the SAME codes. Most SAME-capable NOAA Weather Radio receivers allow programming for multiple counties. Check the receiver for this capability before you buy.
