It depends on the piercing, for most people the way the jewelry looks is key. After all, you don't want it to be too big or too small, but it must also work with the piercing and not prohibit the healing process. This is especially important for genital piercings as the wrong size jewelry may result in a totally useless piercing. Usually a matter of individual custom fit, some piercings do have "standard" sizes which work for most people, and often there is a minimum size. The look is only part of what makes a piercing work for you. It must function properly as well. Jewellery which is not the right size can cause healing problems. Consult PdR for advice.

a. If you can remove the ring, carefully take the ring out and obtain a piece of string (i.e sewing thread). If you have a "barbell" style belly ring, measure the inside of the bar from ball to ball with the piece of string, note the length of the string and use a ruler to measure this length. If you have a "ring" style belly ring, only measure the stem portion that is inserted in your belly button using the same method explained above.

You start by digging a hole from a short distance of the plant (some species has long rhizomes to all sides!) and then slowly dig closer with your fingers or a trowel (small plant shovel). There really is no "standard" size window. How wide you would like your window to look is left up to your discretion.
