Pre-emergent is best applied after aeration to reduce the chance of weed invasion in the yard while grass is spreading to the cored holes. Do not apply pre-emergent if you intend to over-seed.

Practically no pesticides are used in the grass and grain production on dairy farms. Some herbicides may be used in the grain production. However, the use of herbicides is strictly controlled and the traces found are very small or not detectable.

Yes and No. Most of the registered aquatic herbicides can be purchased without a pesticide applicator's license. The exception is 2,4-D compounds which require a license to purchase and apply in Texas (in other states check with the Department of Agriculture). In order to prevent germination of weeds, a pre-merge herbicide may be applied in late fall, winter and early spring.
