The amount of work will depend on your heating load and the type of fuel you burn. With wood, you'll have to cut and haul the wood home but it doesn't have to be split and it only has to be cut into 4' lengths so it really isn't all that much work. The extra large door makes it easy to load the Homesteader and when you burn wood it has to be refueled every 12 to 36 hours. Flax straw bales last anywhere from 2 to 6 hours. When you burn bales you'll have to refuel more often.

No. moisture will NOT condense on your filter as long as your filter is not severely clogged and dramatically restricting air flow. The Desert Spring furnace humidifier is a passive evaporative device. Therefore the air passing through the unit will only carry as much moisture as it can hold. Similarly, the moisture will not condense in your duct work. Steam or atomizing humidifiers can cause these problems, but not a passive by-pass humidifier like the Desert Spring.

Answer: That depends on what type of furnace you have. If you have a warm air furnace then you have an air filter. If you have a boiler and radiators then you probably don't have air filters.

During the summer, dust particles build up on the heat exchanger. When fall comes, you start your furnace, and the heat exchanger heats up to approximately 200 degrees Fahrenheit. Every time the furnace begins operating, the dust and dirt that built up all summer long begins to burn the dust off, which is the smell that is coming from your furnace.

Generally allow one day for replacing a heating and air conditioning system. Installing a brand new central heating and cooling system, including ductwork , may take two days. Be aware that reputable contractors will refuse to install a new air conditioning system or heat pump system when it is raining.
