A standard air bypass valve should be used on all supercharged applications where the supercharger is making more than 6 psi. The advantages of using an air bypass valve include eliminating compressor surge (the noise heard during deceleration) for quieter supercharger operation, and reduced heat soak in the discharge tube and the supercharger.

The best kept secret in forced induction is the little known bypass valve. This small valve, when properly installed between the supercharger and the air throttle body, allows the supercharger to become extremely efficient in terms of economy and parasitic power loss. The EGR re-routes some of the exhaust gases back into the intake/combustion chamber. This is basically done to reduce emissions. Blocking it off will reduce the temperature of the intake since the gases fed back through the EGR are very hot. Lower intake temperature produces more power, but the amount of gases that are passed through the EGR is VERY minimal and probably won't result in much (if any) performance gain. In the event of the CAI filter being completely submerged in water (eg: deep puddle) this gives the CAI a seperate "bypass" area to draw air into the engine, without taking in water to the engine - resulting in hydrolock (your engine is pooched due to ingesting water). Cheap insurance for CAI.

A Blow Off Valve (BOV) is a valve that is mounted on the intake pipe after the turbo but before the throttle body. A BOV's purpose is to prevent compressor surge. When the throttle valve is closed, the vacuum generated in the intake manifold acts on the actuator to open the valve, venting boost pressure in order to keep the compressor out of surge. Bypass valves are also referred to as compressor bypass valves, anti-surge valves, or recirculating valves.

The beaded part of the MAS adapter needs to be cut off. This removes about a half inch of material from the adapter. If you purchased your bypass valve while ordering the AEM intake from RRE, this has already been done to your MAS adapter (they cut it for you). The adapter itself can cover up to half of the bypass valve without effecting it's function. If more of it is covered up, it is not guaranteed to work when needed.

Air bearings may appear to be an attractive alternative to the present bearing system of the CLD motors. However, reasonably sized air bearings do not have the lateral stiffness needed for CLD motors.

Cars with mass air flow(maf) meters must recirculate the air. Any air taken into the system is metered and measured. This measured air must be used or the car will not run properly. Cars with map sensors or carburetors can sump the air to the atmosphere. Map sensors do not measure the air until after it enters the engine. The maf systems measure it before the blower just after the filter.

The orifice of the Hi-Plo valve is much larger than the standard valve allowing for a larger flow of nitrous. With a small orifice valve a pressure drop could occur when nitrous flow is high; causing surging or inadequate nitrous flow. The NOS Hi-Flo valve eliminates this problem. NOS Hi-Flo valves are standard in all NOS kits.
