When should a standard air bypass valve be used?

SuperchargersOnline.com :: Frequently Asked Question
A standard air bypass valve should be used on all supercharged applications where the supercharger is making more than 6 psi. The advantages of using an air bypass valve include eliminating compressor surge (the noise heard during deceleration) for quieter supercharger operation, and reduced heat soak in the discharge tube and the supercharger.

Can Jenvey bodies be connected to an Air Bypass valve?

Components and complete kits are available to connect the output from an ABV to throttle bodies. More information is available on a specific instruction sheet .

Why a Bypass Valve?

Magna Charger, Inc. - Frequently Asked Questions
The best kept secret in forced induction is the little known bypass valve. This small valve, when properly installed between the supercharger and the air throttle body, allows the supercharger to become extremely efficient in terms of economy and parasitic power loss. Our M90 supercharger uses less than 1/3 of 1 HP at 60 MPH cruising. The bypass is operated by a vacuum actuator control unit that is normally closed.

Q: What is the AEM Bypass Valve?

Import Horizon Your Source For Import Performance Parts and ...
A: AEM's patented air bypass valve virtually eliminates the chance of hydro-lock in the unlikely event the filter of your AEM Cold Air induction system becomes submerged in water. The valve installs along the upper portion of the inlet pipe and shuts down induction at the filter when it becomes submerged, rerouting air through its external diaphragm to keep water out and air flowing in.

Why and how should I bypass the EGR valve/line?

_2
The EGR re-routes some of the exhaust gases back into the intake/combustion chamber. This is basically done to reduce emissions. Blocking it off will reduce the temperature of the intake since the gases fed back through the EGR are very hot. Lower intake temperature produces more power, but the amount of gases that are passed through the EGR is VERY minimal and probably won't result in much (if any) performance gain. The drawback is increased emissions.

How does this bypass valve work?

Conrad's RSX tuning Page: Tuning from existing Hondaata cali...
It is a butterfly valve like the one in the throttle body (see picture). The default is closed. When vacuum is high (idle-cruising) an actuator opens the bypass valve so that intake air bypasses the compressor. When accelerating, vacuum decreases and the bypass valve instantly closes. Intake air now goes through the compressor, building boost. More power means more fuel means larger injectors. However, in order to pass CARB, the base kit had to use the stock injectors.

What is the purpose of a bypass valve (bpv)?

Stinger Performance 2.3T FAQ
The Bypass valve (BPV) performs the same function as the BOV above. The only difference is the air is recirculated back into the intake tract in front of the turbo, not released to the atmosphere. The BPV recirculates excess air when the throttle is closed during shifts or deceleration, creating a muffled "woosh" sound. Source: TurboByGarrett.com - Turbo Tech101

What is a CAI bypass valve for? Does it work?

w w w . v a n c o u v e r c i v i c s . c o m
In the event of the CAI filter being completely submerged in water (eg: deep puddle) this gives the CAI a seperate "bypass" area to draw air into the engine, without taking in water to the engine - resulting in hydrolock (your engine is pooched due to ingesting water). Cheap insurance for CAI.

What are the differences between the Mitsubishi and the GFB bypass valve?

Flyin' Miata 1 800 FLY MX5s
Mainly construction. The mitsu valve is all plastic, the GFB unit is all metal. The latter is also adjustable.

Can the NEXUS Air card be used at any air location?

DHS: Frequently Asked Questions: Western Hemisphere Travel I...
NEXUS Air cards will only be accepted in conjunction with the NEXUS program at designated NEXUS sites. For more information please refer to: http://www.cbp.gov/xp/cgov/travel/frequent_traveler/nexus_prog/

Can this product be used with an air gun?

Frequently Asked Questions About SmartVent
Yes. SmartVent was designed to be user friendly on the jobsite, nail gun stable and cuts with a razor knife. You can stand on the product under the shingles after it is installed. We demonstrate in our slide show video online and on cd. Return to Top of Page

Why do I hear air leaking out of my air valve?

Shrink Packaging FAQ
Air valve leaking is a sign of a worn out air valve or a worn out cylinder that has air blowing by seal on the piston. Replace worn devices as needed and test.

Can I use a standard portable air caster system for applications other than appliances?

Low Pressure Portable Air Casters, Air Bearing Movers ? Air ...
Yes, when appropriate. Remember the load weight and footprint are important for determining the correct system for your application.

Can your valve assemblies be used outdoors?

Frequently Asked Questions
Our Industrial actuators are NEMA 4 rated (always add a heater and stat for outdoor applications) and we have NEMA 4 type enclosures and weathershields for our commercial actuators. A Heater & Thermostat may be required for commercial actuators to eliminate condensation.

What is the difference between a BOV and a Bypass Valve? How do they work, and are they necessary?

TurboByGarrett.com - FAQ's
A Blow Off Valve (BOV) is a valve that is mounted on the intake pipe after the turbo but before the throttle body. A BOV's purpose is to prevent compressor surge. When the throttle valve is closed, the vacuum generated in the intake manifold acts on the actuator to open the valve, venting boost pressure in order to keep the compressor out of surge. Bypass valves are also referred to as compressor bypass valves, anti-surge valves, or recirculating valves.

What is the right way to install the AEM bypass valve?

rd Generation Eclipse FAQ
The beaded part of the MAS adapter needs to be cut off. This removes about a half inch of material from the adapter. If you purchased your bypass valve while ordering the AEM intake from RRE, this has already been done to your MAS adapter (they cut it for you). The adapter itself can cover up to half of the bypass valve without effecting it's function. If more of it is covered up, it is not guaranteed to work when needed.

What is the federal standard for breathing air?

Bullard’s Frequently Asked Questions Page
CFR84.141 42 is the Department of Public Health. 84 is the Approval of Respiratory Protective Devices. http://www.cdc.gov/niosh/part84.txt

Can the motor be used with air bearings?

California Linear Devices, Inc.: Frequently Asked Questions
Air bearings may appear to be an attractive alternative to the present bearing system of the CLD motors. However, reasonably sized air bearings do not have the lateral stiffness needed for CLD motors.

Can I vent my bypass to the atmosphere or do I have to recirculate the air?

SuperchargersOnline.com :: Frequently Asked Question
Cars with mass air flow(maf) meters must recirculate the air. Any air taken into the system is metered and measured. This measured air must be used or the car will not run properly. Cars with map sensors or carburetors can sump the air to the atmosphere. Map sensors do not measure the air until after it enters the engine. The maf systems measure it before the blower just after the filter.

What is the difference between a standard and an NOS Hi-Flo bottle valve?

NOS Systems FAQ - Nitrous Supply
The orifice of the Hi-Plo valve is much larger than the standard valve allowing for a larger flow of nitrous. With a small orifice valve a pressure drop could occur when nitrous flow is high; causing surging or inadequate nitrous flow. The NOS Hi-Flo valve eliminates this problem. NOS Hi-Flo valves are standard in all NOS kits.
