Indoor tanning provides a controlled environment that is not affected by weather, temperature, time of year, location and other atmospheric conditions or factors that are governed by nature. A carefully researched blend of UVA and UVB light was developed to provide the best conditions for the skin to tan with minimum risks.

Please consult your physician. Although we know that there is no danger from UV rays since they cannot penetrate deeper than the dermis (skin layer). Pregnant women are advised to be cautious with saunas, hot tubs and other things that can cause excessive heat to build up in the uterus. If your physician okay's your tanning, speak to our Tanning Consultant about which units and times of day are the coolest.

Many of those diagnosed with MS are young women with plans of having children at some point in their future. The good news is that MS does not affect fertility, and pregnancies progress "normally" (that is, having the same benefits and risks as someone without MS). For most women with MS, MS symptoms often stabilize or improve during pregnancy.

There is no current scientific and/or biological reason why a pregnant woman cannot tan indoors or outdoors. In fact, some researchers believe the productions of vitamin D caused by exposure to UVB may be beneficial to both the mother and fetus. However, there is some concern that the heat build-up which inevitably occurs when tanning indoors and outdoors may adversely affect some pregnant women, just as a sauna or Jacuzzi might. A pregnant woman may not be comfortable in the tanning equipment.

We offer two yoga classes per week specifically for prenatal women. In addition, feel free to come to any level 1 class. Some poses should not be done while pregnant, but our teachers have all received training on working with pregnant women. If yours is a high risk pregnancy, please consult your physician before starting yoga.

MRI is considered a safe exam. However, conclusive studies regarding potential hazards to a pregnancy have not been established. In this respect, MRI is generally not performed on women during their first trimester (12 weeks) of pregnancy. If your physician feels the need to order an MRI during pregnancy, ask him or her to explain the benefits and risks associated with this exam.

Absolutely! We have shared our tours with passengers in all “special conditions”. In fact, snorkeling and floating during pregnancy is one of the most comfortable experiences available here on Maui!

There is no proven danger from moderate use of indoor tanning equipment. However, because some women are very sensitive to the heat generated by indoor tanning units, it is our policy not to tan pregnant women.

Pregnant or nursing moms should always check with their doctors. Badger uses only the highest quality natural ingredients. No chemicals or chemical derivatives are used, and the essential oils used are in low percentages, therefore moderate use should be safe for all. As with all new products, it is best to do a Skin Patch Test* to test for possible allergic reactions.

We'll never give anyone advice on what medication they can take while pregnant. Only your doctor can advise you on medications that are safe for you to use and we'll always suggest that you contact him or her for their educated opinion. Please always check with your doctor before taking a medication during pregnancy. Don't rely on something you read on the Internet for such an important decision.

Any dental treatment is safe during pregnancy but it's better to avoid x-ray and, unless the treatment is urgent, it's usually better to wait until after the baby is born. The Department of Health advises against replacing amalgam fillings during pregnancy, but this can be done safely if it's absolutely necessary.
