No. Audio books, video tapes, computer programs, "new" (current year purchase) books are not exchanged between libraries. Current bestsellers are among materials that cannot be borrowed from other libraries.

Requests for videos may be submitted by phone, fax, e-mail, mail, or in person. We need your name, address, phone, the date, and the video numbers or titles.

This is a surprisingly common question, but unfortunately I don't know a good answer to it. The advice I usually give is to contact some of the milk float specialists, post a request on the mailing list or contact local dairies. There are also specialist hire companies who provide vehicles for use in such productions, some of which may be able to provide a milk float. Please let me know if you have a better answer to this.

Using film will cost you literally thousands of dollars for enough film to shoot a 90 minute move. The equivalent number of MiniDV tapes will cost you less than $ 100. For the minimum cost of producing and editing a film, you could buy the setup that I've purchased and have equipment to produce quality videos for years. If you're not highly skilled with film, your first few productions will look pretty embarassing.

We cannot transfer (convert, copy, record) any copyrighted material including commercial movies, concerts, sport events, TV shows, etc. unless you have the written permission from the copyright owner. While it is true that according to "fair use" regulations you are entitled to make yourself a backup copy on another medium (DVD for example), we, as a third party charging money for our services, cannot legally do it for you.

If you have the rights to them, then stock photos are permitted. In other words, you may use photos not taken during the 48 hour time period.

We choose to ship via UPS so we can track a shipment if necessary. However, many churches choose to return resources via USPS. There is rarely a problem. Just remember that when you have a resource checked out, the resource is your responsibility until it is returned to our office; therefore, if a resource is lost in the mail, you will be charged for its replacement. Please return resources as soon as you have finished using them, so we can accommodate other bookings.

We transfer all formats of film (8mm, S-8mm, 16mm, S-16mm, 9.5mm, and 35mm), both negative and reversal.

Videos can be added to a film, in between a batch of photographs. We receive many requests for this and it does make a film more interesting. We do charge $10 for each video segment added (each 5 minutes of video is considered one video segment).

The rates for showing film and video are the same for any other art form if the work is shown in an exhibition context. This is why there is no separate category for film and video in the Exhibitions section. For projection of a film or video in a non-exhibition setting, use A.2.2.2. in the Reproductions section of the Fee Schedule.

Video content is interlaced, and typically 30 frames (meaning 60 fields) per second, while film content is progressive, typically 24 frames per second. The "Video Format" section of NVDVD Video property page indicates if the current content is film or video.

Our website provides links to other archives, including a section of organizations that specialize in Jewish related materials. The internet is also an excellent resource for finding titles on video. You might also check your local library and/or other organizations in your region.

Media Services, the Librarians and/or the Instructional Technology Consultants help with obtaining public performance rights, getting permission to copy and working with vendors or distributors to smooth any problems with your use of their tapes for preview or classroom. We try to purchase or rent videos with the public performance rights when we can. Also, we are willing to purchase extra copies of a video when it seems appropriate.

We ship videos and DVDs about ten days prior to the reserved use date, so you will receive it in plenty of time to prepare. If you need it earlier, please talk with us about your request.
