Small wind turbines are unlikely to have any detrimental effects on aviation and associated radar or navigation systems. In general, turbines with small diameters are unlikely to have effects on television and radio reception. If this occurs it is likely to be highly localised and technically easy to overcome. It is also unlikely that small rooftop wind turbines will effect either mobile phone reception or fixed radio or microwave communications links.

Small wind turbines do make some noise, but this is not a problem as long as the turbine is well-sited and located at least 200 metres from occupied buildings. Small wind turbines do not interfere with TV reception. See our Social, Environmental, and Other Considerations page for more details

Severe storms or very heavy rain to the South-to-Southwest of your location may interrupt satellite reception until the storm clears or moves. Cloudiness or average rain should not interrupt your service.

It is possible for wind turbines to cause interference to local TV reception. In accordance with government guidance, during the planning process an assessment of possible impacts is undertaken in close liaison with the various operators of telecommunications equipment. Any impact can be overcome by realignment or upgrading the viewer’s television aerial or by installing a repeater mast.

Experience and careful monitoring by independent experts shows that birds are unlikely to be damaged by the moving blades of wind turbines. And in many places, like the Appalachian Mountains, the local people are anxious to diversify away from the coal industry. Since the wind turbines take up so little actual land, the landowners can continue to use their property like they always have.

Wind energy and farming are very compatible. Very little land is actually taken out of production - just enough space for the footprint of the tower and access roads, that is, about ? an acre per turbine. However, multiple towers need to be spaced some distance apart to ensure that they all have good access to the wind.

A comprehensive study of wind development and property values by the Renewable Energy Policy Project in 2003 showed that wind development usually has either no effect or a small positive impact on property values.
