Can I use a brushless motor in my Submarine?

Frequently asked questions
You can not use a brushless motor in the majority of model submarines because their controllers are not set up to operate in reverse. Also, the RPM on these motors is too high for use in model submarines, even with the use of a drive reduction. In addition, brushless motors and the special speed controls they require are noticeably more expensive then their brushed counterparts.

Can I use brushless motors with Roboteq's controller?

Roboteq Frequently Asked Questions
No. Brushless motors have a different construction requiring the controller to output three sin waves 120 degrees apart to create a rotating magnetic field. Roboteq's controller has only two outputs and may not be used. See similar questions...

Why do I need to use a reduction drive in my submarine?

Frequently asked questions
A drive reduction is used in a model submarine to reduce the load on the motor, thus increasing battery life (running time). It also increases the torque at the propeller, allowing for the possibility of either a larger propeller or a smaller one with a greater amount of pitch (angle) on the blades. When should I use an explosion proof motor?

Tempest Technology Corporation
explosion proof motor should be used any time the blower is operated in an explosive environment. There are different grades of explosion proof motors based upon the type of environment. Be sure to specify the type of environment that the blower will operate within when ordering an explosion proof motor. See similar questions...

What kind of motor and fuel do they use?

Helicopters can be powered with electric motors (not recommended for the beginner as they are fairly fragile), 2-stroke glow fuel engines running a combination of methanol, nitro-methane, and synthetic oil (model airplane fuel), 2-stroke gas engines (similar to your weed eater), 4-stroke engines, and even diesel engines. Most people use a 2-stroke glow fuel engine that is designed for use in model helicopters which usually has a different carburetor and a larger area heat-sink cooling head. See similar questions...

CAN I USE A MOTOR FROM A _______?

Power Assist FAQ
It is probably also wise in a FAQ to say what motors are not suitable for a PA. Lots of people have asked about the following: Automotive starter motors are not good, though it has been done. They get very hot, the brushes will wear out quickly, their shafts are often not supported by ball bearings, and they are simply not designed for continuous use. Cordless drill motors are not good. I've heard a lot about Li-Po batteries, can I use them in my Submarine?

Frequently asked questions
Li-Po batteries, while providing very high power to weight ratios are extremely sensitive to over charging and discharging as well as being very delicate (structurally). Li-Po batteries require special charging and balancing stations to avoid the danger of explosion and fire. Another drawback is their need to have voltage limiters built into the speed controls attached to them. These speed controls limit the low voltage on each cell in the battery to around 3.2 volts per cell. See similar questions...

What's the difference between "brushless" and "touchless"?

Kaady Car Washes - Frequently Asked Questions
We employ a brushless process, using only Fiber-Soft® (a 21st century cleaning medium) that gently cleans your car in combination with safe, biodegradable shampoos and cleaners. "No Touch" operations, on the other hand don't use direct-contact cleaning media, and rely instead on acid-based chemicals and high pressure water. This is hard on the vehicle finish and can even etch glass and uncoated polished aluminum wheels. See similar questions...

What are submarine hulls made of?

Frequently asked questions
Most model submarine hulls are made of fiberglass. However, more model kits are being made of ABS or Styrene plastic because of the reduced cost and ease of consturction. See similar questions...

Why does VP use Motor Octane Numbers?

VP Fuels FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions and Answers
Motor octane more accurately represents a high performance or racing application. The motor octane machine runs at a higher RPM, hotter temperature, and more timing, thus putting more stress on the fuel. Do not be fooled by high research or average (R+M/2) octane numbers. See similar questions...

Why use a permanent magnet DC motor as a generator?

Bicycle Pedal Power Generator FAQ Frequently Asked Questions
DC permanent magnet motors are readily available on surplus web sites, thrift stores, garage sales, and old cars. Here is a Leeson 14 AMP DC Motor which is very much suited to be a generator. Click here to see more information about this DC motor/ generator. The interesting thing about using these motors is that most of them create DC power that can easily be fed into an AC inverter so you can power up your television or computer with it. Can I use a capacitor other than the one that comes with the motor?

ORIENTAL MOTOR U.S.A. CORP
The capacitor that comes with the motor has a capacitance that was selected to work optimally with the motor. When another capacitor is used, it should be a motor capacitor with the same capacitance and rated voltage as the capacitor that comes with the motor. Electrolytic capacitors may not be used. What weight of motor oil should I use?

Auto Mechanics", "Auto Repairs","Mechanic Talk", "Certified ...
Generally, 10W-30 is best for all engines in year-round driving. 5W-30 is approved for most late model engines as well. It is what many new cars come with, because it lubricates the engine more quickly on start-up, it makes cold weather starting a little easier and reduces fuel consumption. However, it is not appropriate for any turbo charged or diesel engines, high-performance V-8s, or for sustained highway speeds or towing in hot weather. 10W-40 is also a popular choice. When should I use a motor freight carrier?

FAQ's.html
When your item weighs more than 150 lbs., truck transportation is more economical than using a parcel service. Common carriers transport your item on a truck with additional small shipments so that the costs for transportation are shared. If your shipment weighs more than 8,000 lbs, you may need an entire truck (or have a Truckload shipment). See similar questions...

Should I balance the motor?

Frequently Asked Questions
In most cases weight matching of the pistons and rods/rod bolts is all that's required. The inline six is naturally balanced against first and second order harmonics and the crankshaft/counterweights usually don't require spin balancing, but having this done will improve engine smoothness at high rpm and lessen harmful vibrations. The Jeep I6 motor is internally balanced so the addition of the flywheel and harmonic balancer isn't necessary for the spin balancing procedure. See similar questions...
