You can not use a brushless motor in the majority of model submarines because their controllers are not set up to operate in reverse. Also, the RPM on these motors is too high for use in model submarines, even with the use of a drive reduction. Li-Po batteries require special charging and balancing stations to avoid the danger of explosion and fire. Another drawback is their need to have voltage limiters built into the speed controls attached to them. Generally, 10W-30 is best for all engines in year-round driving. 5W-30 is approved for most late model engines as well. It is what many new cars come with, because it lubricates the engine more quickly on start-up, it makes cold weather starting a little easier and reduces fuel consumption. In most cases weight matching of the pistons and rods/rod bolts is all that's required. The inline six is naturally balanced against first and second order harmonics and the crankshaft/counterweights usually don't require spin balancing, but having this done will improve engine smoothness at high rpm and lessen harmful vibrations.
