Frequently Asked Questions

The Glacier D-3 is a water-cooled distiller. How is that different from an air-cooled distiller?

Glacier Water Treatment Systems
The Glacier distiller uses a unique and patented water cooling process to condense steam into purified drinking water. This process eliminates the heat that is normally associated with steam distillation. Air-cooled distillers use electricity (a blower fan) as its main component for condensing. These units typically will use up to 40% more in electrical costs vs. Glacier units.

Should I buy Water Cooled units or Air Cooled units?

Packaged AC, Split AC India, Packaged Unit & Window AC India
Water Cooled units are the best choice. They consume less power and have a longer life. However, you will need 15 litres of water per hour per ton of Airconditioning. If this quantity is available then Water Cooled units are the obvious choice. Otherwise, choose Air Cooled units. See similar questions...

Why use a water cooled unit instead of an air cooled unit?

Frequently Asked Questions, Portable Air Conditioner
The main benefits of the water cooled unit are: no need to exhaust hot air, quieter, smaller and more efficient. If you would like more detailed information, please click HERE. See similar questions...

What basic disadvantages of the current air-cooled solutions are removed by water cooling?

Knürr AG - Service & Capabilities - FAQ Cooling Sol...
The main problem with conventional cooling is the routing of very large cooling air volumes through raised floors, hanging ceilings and inside rooms. The water cooling assumes the task of carrying out the critical heat transport through these areas. As water can transport 3,500 times as much heat per volume as air can, very small lines are sufficient for transporting very large heat volumes. See similar questions...

How far will the D-3 pump water?

Glacier Water Treatment Systems
The pump we use is the most dependable pump on the market. It produces 60 p.s.i., and will pump .7 gallons of water per minute. In some cases water has been pumped 250 ft. However, since the Glacier distiller can be installed anywhere, there is hardly ever a need to pump your distilled water over great distances. See similar questions...

Can I really install the Glacier D-3 under my kitchen sink?

Glacier Water Treatment Systems
Yes! The Glacier D-3 was specifically designed to be installed directly under the kitchen sink. While this distiller can go virtually anywhere, no other distiller available today can do this! See similar questions...

How much electricity does the Glacier D-3 use and how noisy is it compared to other distillers?

Glacier Water Treatment Systems
Since the D-3 distiller is water-cooled they do not rely on a fan to blow room temperature air on the condensing coils. This usually results in a 50% savings for the Glacier distillers. Since the Glacier distiller does not add any heat into your environment, there is no additional air-conditioning necessity, also saving you money! See similar questions...

Every few weeks the boiler may need to be cleaned with either distilled white vinegar or with a granular (white crystalline) descalant such as sulfamic and citric acid. Choose the method which is most convenient and/or cost-effective for you (Which method is best depends on your source water quality and whether your boiler design scales easily). boiling chambers (especially necessary in hard water areas), use 2oz per 4 litres/1 gal of heated water and soak. Can I drink the water while the distiller is making new water and, if so, how hot will it be?

Glacier Water Treatment Systems
Yes! Since the D-3 uses tap water in the process of condensation, in most cases the water you use will be at about tap temperature. Distilled water is the purest form of drinking water. It is water the way nature intended it to be, H2O. The process will remove all the impurities from your drinking water. Remember that most of your "minerals" are inorganic materials and that your body is an organic being. This simply means that your body cannot ingest, and assimilate, inorganic material.
