An underground conduit is generally required to be in a trench 18" from the top of the conduit to the finished grade. An exception is allowed for under a concrete slab or a building. Cables, approved for direct burial use, are to be 24" below the finished grade. These cables may not be run in concrete and may be exposed where run inside or under a building.
