TextAloud includes toolbars or plugins for Internet Explorer and Firefox. With these browsers, after installing TextAloud and rebooting, you can display the toolbar by going to View->Toolbars in the browser. These toolbars make importing text or having web pages spoken simple. More details on using the toolbars in the TextAloud Manual.

Most Electronic Emissary projects use only electronic mail or Web-based fora (discussion areas) to support communication among the students, mentor(s), and teacher(s) or parent(s) involved. Microsoft Frontpage 2000. The program is efficient and reliable for the administration of a website, for instance when moving documents and links pointing at them. Frontpage 2000 is not state-of-the-art any longer, but convenient despite several problems. I'm still using it because I never change a running system unless it is inevitable. I would need weeks to get accustomed to something new and find workarounds for new bugs.

Piratedrive is not a web server nor does it have a url for accessing via Internet Explorer or any other web browser. You can save web page files on Piratedrive, but they cannot be accessed through a web browser. Piratedrive is 100% redundant with automatic fail over. There is no single point of failure. As with all computer hardware, unexpected problems do occur, but access interruptions should be significantly less than with typical servers.

One of the features of nweb is the ability to "turn off" images to speed up the downloading process. If you want to see images, go to the Options screen and change this feature to download images. quot;Image Retrieval" is set to "On" by default and images are automatically loaded. You can change this option by selecting "Off" or "Manual with placeholders".

You can reference your macintosh by looking up its IP number in your MacTCP or TCP/IP control panel. Your IP address is a dotted quad of 4 numbers, like 130.95.156.3 or 1.2.3.4. Then you can use the URL: where 1.2.3.4 is your IP number. If you want to reference your machine by name (like http://www.mymac.net/) then you need to have an entry put in your DNS by your ISP (Internet Service Provider) or Network Admin. DNS stands for Domain Name Server.

However, if a more complicated site is desired, more advanced tools are needed. A good Open Source HTML editor (not WYSIWYG) is Bluefish. It can be used by issuing the command "bluefish" on any qwe or private phys computer.

Frontpage. Highly recommended for building websites. One of the best features I liked about Frontpage is that it keeps track of the changes you make, so when you want to "Publish" your website, it only sends down the changed information. It's a way of synchronizing between the information on your host and the information stored locally on your computer. Frontpage has an "Explorer" editor which lets you see your website as a whole.

The formsmgr program is designed to be called from several different web pages. On your forms web page, just after the opening form statement that calls the program, a hidden input line is used to tell the program which configuration file (*.cfg) to use with that particular form. To create several different forms web pages, call the same formsmgr.cgi program, and just use a different configuration file for each form.
