Each graduate business school develops and implements its own policy concerning the use of GMAT scores in making admissions decisions. They do, however, usually set their initial ranking based on the GMAT scores. After the initial review, the evaluation of the subjective factors (work and other relevant experience, recommendation letters, application essays, reports of personal interviewers) usually plays a much larger role in admission decisions.

If you score lower than a cut-off score, you may not be considered for admission by certain schools. If you fall on the 'average score' band, other factors like your GPA assume more importance in the admissions process. If you are an international student planning on studying in the US, GMAT scores are relatively more important.

The weight placed on these exams varies according to discipline and to individual schools. Most programs tend to have baseline scores below which they will usually not consider a candidate. However, it is not unusual for students with very high test scores to be rejected in favor of someone with only fair scores if that student has other outstanding qualities, such as a high GPA and impressive research, internship, or related work experience.

The focus of the Admissions Committee is to admit students on the basis of significant potential in mathematics, science, and engineering. There is no single academic or personal profile of students who have such potential. In particular, there is no specific SAT score or grade-point average that ensures or precludes freshman applicants from gaining admission.

Each program has its specific admission requirements. There is not a set minimum score needed for admission. The score on the admission test is just one of several factors considered for admission. Some programs allow conditional admission. For these programs, the graduate advisor may allow a student to take classes for one semester without taking the required admission exam. It is at the discretion of the graduate advisor and academic dean to offer a student conditional admission status.

Once an application file is complete, it is scheduled for review by the IBS Admissions Committee. They may decide to invite a prospective student for an on-site or phone interview; they may decide to hold on the application and review it at a later date; or they may decide not to offer admission to the candidate. Once the interview is completed, the Admissions Committee again reviews the full application, including interview evaluations.

Applicants must have a bachelor's degree from a 4-year college or university, a GMAT score and at least six years of full-time business, non-profit or government experience. All IBEAR applicants must submit a GMAT sore report. IBEAR recommends that all international applicants also submit a TOEFL score, but waives this requirement in some cases under certain conditions. All applicants who do not submit a TOEFL score must have a personal interview by an IBEAR admission staff member.

We try to develop an overall picture of the candidate and their chance of success in our program by considering all the application materials presented. Although we like to see the Quantitative portion of the GRE test scores above 90%, we do not weight the GRE so heavily that scoring below that mark would cause us to deny a candidate.

In addition to GPA and GRE scores, letters of recommendation and one’s personal statement are considered in making admissions decisions for both M.S. and Ph.D. students. Letters of recommendation preferably should be from academic individuals who can assess a candidate’s ability to be successful in graduate studies.

VEP scores are used behind-the-scenes to help us determine value-for-value exchanges. When you confirm an exchange vacation, our system has determined that the comment card data of the deposited resort is comparable to that of the requested resort at that time. Because VEP scores change continuously, it's possible that the VEP score of a resort will be higher or lower than it was at the time of confirmation. VEP scores are proprietary and will not be publicly posted.

The GMAT is one of the required parts of an application and the results are an important factor in the admission process. However, there is no certain weight put on this or any other factor. GMAT results are reviewed in conjunction with all other parts of the application.

ETS reports your three most recent GMAT scores to each school to which you've directed a score report. The majority of schools simply average your three most recently reported sets of scores.

Unofficial scores from the Verbal and Quantitative multiple-choice sections, along with the Total score, are available immediately after you complete the test. Official GMAT score reports, which include the AWA score, will be mailed to you and your designated score report recipients (schools) approximately two weeks after the test. You must respond to both essays and each multiple-choice section of the test to get an official score report.

The GMAT is required for applicants in Accounting. The other departments (Finance, Management, Marketing, Real Estate, and Supply Chain and Information Systems) prefer GMAT scores, but the GRE is an acceptable alternative. Scores must be no more than five years old.

The Department does not have a formal GRE/GMAT level requirement. Typically, the Department expects GRE/GMAT scores to be above 1000 (verbal and quantitative combined). However, a portfolio approach is used to assess an applicant's credentials for admission. The GRE/GMAT, GPA, work experience and career statement are considered together.

Your application is not considered complete until we receive the official test scores directly from the Educational Testing Service. Hence, you must ensure that your official scores reach the Johnson School by the application deadline for which you wish to be considered: October 9, November 9, January 9*, March 9.

The median GMAT score for students entering our two-year MBA Class of 2007 was 660. The median for students entering our one-year MBA Class of 2006 was 710. Applicants to both of our Executive MBA programs are not required to take the GMAT. Please remember that the GMAT is one of many factors considered for acceptance.
