You are not "immune" to an STD if you have had it before. STDs caused by bacteria (chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis) can be treated and cured, but you can get them again if exposed. Viral STDs cannot be cured and may remain in your body forever. The religious life is vital to the program of the Home. Residents and cottage parents regularly attend Sunday morning chapel and Wednesday night vespers. A full time chaplain is part of the Home's staff. Many of the children share in leadership for the Sunday morning service through leading worship, sharing in special music, or as ushers or acolytes. Residents use their tithes and offerings to support mission projects beyond the campus.

In addition to the regular school programs the residents have many opportunities on campus. Trained staff persons supervise recreation activities. An essential part of the recreation program is our Certified Ropes Course which helps youth to develop self-esteem, improve self confidence and learn to trust themselves, their cottage mates and adults.

If you think you have an STD, see a health care provider immediately. Seeking treatment early will help to minimize the long-term effects of most STDs. Avoid sexual contact until you are cured.

There is no single test that can check for all STDs. We offer tests for gonorrhea, chlamydia, syphilis, hepatitis B, vaginal infections, genital herpes, as well as Pap tests for cervical cancer, on a confidential basis.

We offer free treatment for gonorrhea, chlamydia and some vaginal infections. We also offer counselling on managing the infection and how to tell partners, if necessary.

A - Messiah's student body donated more than 70,000 hours to local mission projects and community service during the 2005-2006 academic year. During summer or spring break, on the weekends or in their spare time, Messiah students find ways to serve. A number of students travel overseas on short-term missions projects. Some students work with inner-city shelters and youth programs. Others volunteer with crisis pregnancy centers, social service agencies, and rehabilitation facilities.

Doctoral students can begin working in a lab the summer before they begin classes. Students may also be interested in the PhD Internship program. For some students, this provides a way to get settled into graduate life before classes are added to the mix.

Yes. In addition to volunteering your time by attending workshops and Stakeholder Forum and Work Group meetings, there are other ways to get involved: Volunteer as a tour docent: The Don Edwards San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge is training volunteer tour docents. Docents are individuals who will lead tours and introduce the public to the restoration project. Volunteers can become involved at FAB through our advisory councils. One serves Lane County and the other serves the 4 eastern counties: Crook, Deschutes, Jefferson and Lake. The advisory councils are made up of community members who help create more opportunities for FAB clients. They also advise staff how to improve services. New members are always considered!
