Deferring the generation of the clipboard data until a request is received from another application has a number of advantages: A cut or copy operation can be nearly instantaneous, even for very large data, as no actual data are being transferred. It is more open-ended in terms of clipboard data types, since not all data formats need to be generated up front.

You can copy data from the AimAdt grid window to the clipboard, but at this time you cannot take data from the clipboard and paste it back into the grid. Yes, sometimes, it still can be used to get the same value, sometimes it does not. Sometimes, you will get a segmentation error. The language does not check the validity of the pointer. If they have not been completely overwritten, yes. If partly overwritten, maybe. If the file was fragmented before it was deleted, recovery may be very difficult. On whole, we can recover many instances of deleted data. The probability of success depends upon the specific circumstances. Data on a computer is normally stored in files that are organized into directories (or folders) and subdirectories (folders within other folders). When a file is deleted, its data is not actually erased. All that happens is that the space where the file's data is stored is marked as "available to be reused." But, unless another files comes along and usurps the first file's data space, that data remains there to be found. Often the next files to be stored are stored somewhere else. Try this with the paste. Find a smallish leaf with an interesting texture - a geranium leaf is good. Paint the paste on the back, let it dry. CellQuest does not write the full name of the data file in $FIL keyword. They leave off the .001 suffix, leaving all the values of the $FIL keyword the same. To deal with this, FlowJo has a preference to "Use sample's filename instead of Keyword". Open the Preferences (under the FlowJo menu) and check the box next to "Use sample's filename instead of Keyword".
