The console will hang during login if the Server Layer is unable to resolve the host name of the host on which the console is being started. In this case, the Server Layer host's local /etc/hosts file or the map in NIS / NIS+ will have to be updated. In addition if you are using Windows console and the problem hasn't been solved edit the file "C:\Program Files\SyMON2.0\esymon\es-console.bat" on the console host to include its ip address. This is a symptom of a bug in Sun Enterprise SyMON 2.

This and the similar message: warning: lookup /dev/console: error # both indicate that the kernel can't find the console device. This means that you probably forgot to build devices while in the Installer. Reboot the machine, mount any non-root partitions you have using the Installer's Mini-Shell, and choose the "Build Devices" menu item to set up the proper devices. If something goes wrong and the tools hang on you for some reason (easy to do if you try and read a file called aux.sh), first try hitting ^C to return to bash or the cmd prompt. If you start up another shell, and applications don't run, it's a good bet that the hung process is still running somewhere. Use the Task Manager, pview, or a similar utility to kill the process.
