What is KLASS KOTE Epoxy Paint?

FAQ - KLASS KOTE
KLASS KOTE is a protective, decorative, 2-part epoxy coating system. It can be used on a wide variety of substrates and in numerous environments, which require a highly protective and attractive coating.

Can I use KLASS KOTE components (epoxy, catalyst & reducer) with other epoxies?

FAQ - KLASS KOTE
Testing appears to indicate that KLASS KOTE and Hobbypoxy/K&B Superpoxy are freely interchangeable. That is to say, that any of the components of any of the three will work equally as well together as the "correct" brand. Modelers who have a quantity of colors of Hobbypoxy or K&B but no catalysts or reducer for them, may possibly be able use up what they have by using Klass Kote catalyst and/or reducer.

What is the cure time for KLASS KOTE?

FAQ - KLASS KOTE
KLASS KOTE will harden to tack or dust free in 20 minutes to 1 hour. After 4 hours, the film will be thumb print free. After 24 hours, the painted surface/object will be ready to be placed into most normal situations (package able) but complete cure (sword hardness) will generally take several days. In most normal conditions, KLASS KOTE epoxy will be suitably hard within a 24 hour period. Refer to Test Results page.

When can I apply subsequent coats of KLASS KOTE?

FAQ - KLASS KOTE
The best time to recoat epoxy is within 48 hours after the initial coat. Because epoxies take days to reach a full cure, a second coat applied shortly after the first will partially fuse to the first coat rather than forming a simple mechanical bond. You will also eliminate the need to sand between coats if you reapply within a short amount of time. Refer to the Data Sheets page under the section Cure Schedule.

Can I use another thinner/reducer with KLASS KOTE products?

FAQ - KLASS KOTE
If KLASS KOTE Reducer is not available, use a HIGH GRADE lacquer thinner formulated to reduce epoxies. DO NOT OVER-REDUCE. See the KLASS KOTE Product Data Sheet for Epoxy Colors & Clear - Mixing Instructions.

Are there minimum and maximum temperature requirements for KLASS KOTE?

FAQ - KLASS KOTE
We do not recommend using (applying) the product on substrates below 50 degrees F or above 120 degrees F. (likewise for ambient temperatures). For optimum results, apply to substrates, and store the product between 50-80 degrees F. Humidity can slow curing processes down. For best results, use product below 70% humidity.

Are CERAM-KOTE epoxy coatings environmentally friendly?

Consult your local government agency. CERAM-KOTE coatings can cause skin sensitization. CeRam-Kote recommends the use of protective clothing. Why is epoxy stronger than any normal paint?

FAQ
Normal paint products, although also consisting of many different ingredients, does not have a catalyst part and relies mainly on the evaporation of solvents to air-dry. This process leaves the binder elements that keep the solids and pigments together as a coloured layer on the surface. The inherent bonding qualities of an epoxy resin system offers far more bonding strength to the substrate it was designed for.

Can I paint the plane with other than epoxy and urethane paints?

FAQ
Yes, Automotive paints of the past were lacquer and enamels that, with care can be repaired and maintained as easily as the epoxy and urethane paints if applied correctly. I also heard about Sico Acrythane industrial paint. Then there are the PPG systems and of course, the usual aircraft paint. I have even heard of people using marine paint with a roller. Later in this website a section will be posted on how to paint your plane. ~ cdngoose

East Valley Supply -- Frequently Asked Questions

What is an epoxy?

FAQ
A basic Epoxy system consists of two main elements namely an EPOXY RESIN and a CATALYST (HARDENER). The two elements is chemically balanced so that when they are combined, a chemical reaction will take place where the molecules of the two main elements will combine to form a new structure that will become hard and solid after a period of time. Each of these two basic elements is further complimented with additional additives depending on the final purpose of the epoxy.

Why do you make fun of Polly Klass?

Frequently Asked Questions
I don't make fun of Polly Klass. I'm not making light of the situation either. She was murdered by a brutal man, and that man is paying the price. My beef isn't with Polly, it's with her father. I have a problem that he makes his living off his daughter's death. I think that is the most depraved thing a victim could do. Case in point: I believe John Walsh is an American hero. A true hero. His son was murdered, but he took his tragedy and created "America's Most Wanted.

What components are in epoxy?

FAQ - KLASS KOTE
KLASS KOTE epoxy coating consists of two distinct components. Side A Epoxy Resin and Side B Curing Agent. The two components are mixed in a 1-to-1 ratio. A chemical reaction occurs between the two parts generating heat and turning the mixture into an inert, hard film with the previously mentioned characteristics. After the two epoxy parts are combined there is a working time (pot-life) during which the epoxy can be applied or used. See Cure Schedule heading on the KLASS KOTE Data Sheets.

Frequently Asked Questions
If you have some surface source which you'd like to paint to some surface destination at position (x, y) you would use code as follows: cairo_t *cr = cairo_create (destination); cairo_set_source_surface (cr, source, x, y); cairo_paint (cr); Note that the paint operation will copy the entire surface.

Are CERAM-KOTE coatings a one or two part system?

Product Line
Most CERAM-KOTE coatings are considered two component systems. Part A (base) is a ceramic/epoxy solution that is mixed with Part B (curing agent). Please see each individual Product Data Sheet for mixing and application instructions. With extreme care, a two-component kit of CERAM-KOTE may be broken down into smaller quantities. Careful and exact measurements must be made to assure that the proper ratio of Part A to Part B by volume or by weight is maintained.

Do you re-paint?

FAQs & Information on Oil Painting Restoration & Conservatio...
NO. In essence we retouch the painting only where paint is missing or worn, avoiding interfering with the original work of the artist. Retouching is painstaking and time-consuming, using fine sable brushes, working on small areas at a time, ensuring a perfect colour mix and matching the artist’s original brush strokes. We follow the ethical restoration standards of minimal intervention and reversibility.
