For single doors, as a general rule, add 2" in width and 2-1/2" in height to the nominal door size for single doors. For instance, a standard 3/0 x 6/8 door would require a 38" x 82-1/2" rough opening. Pairs would require twice the nominal door width plus 2" as well as an additional 1/2" if there is an astragal ( between them. For example, a standard pair of 3/0 x 6/8 doors with an astragal would require a 74-1/2" x 82-1/2" rough opening.

For all prehung units we REQUIRE that you provide us with your rough opening size. We will build the unit to fit the rough opening size that is provided. If this is for new construction, we normally add 2" to the height of the door and a total of 2" to the width of the door for a rough opening. This allows for the thickness of the jamb and leaves an extra 1/2? in width and height to square the unit.

For standard size new construction windows, usually 1 " under the nominal size of the window, which will allow 1/4" clearance all around. For example, for a 4030 XO window, make the RO 47" X 35". If you order a custom sized (heel dimension must be stated) window, the window will be the heel dimension ordered, so you will need to make the rough opening that size PLUS whatever clearance you wish, usually 1/4" all around.

Fit the door opening to the size of an adult dog. For puppies, check the size of the parents. Determining the jamb width for a prehung door can be tricky. For most interior applications it is simply a matter of measuring the overall wall thickness. For instance, a standard wall constructed with 2 x 4 studs and 1/2" sheetrock on both sides would have a wall thickness of 4-9/16", that is 3-9/16" (the net width of the 2 x 4 stud) plus 1" (1/2" sheetrock times 2 sides).

Yes, the screen frame is offset to compensate for this. The adjusting screws for the screen wheels need to be facing the interior of the house. If the screen is installed‘backwards’ then the handle hits the patio door.

No. All that is needed is 1 inch on the top and 1 inch on each side for mounting . Our screens have 1 inch of hook fastener double stitched across the top and on both sides. If your opening is substantially shorter or narrower, you may have to add wood to you door framing, however, this is seldom needed.

Yes, however, in some cases you might have to order multiple windows to fill one opening. Some openings are just too big and may require multiple windows joined together in order to fill the opening. There are standard window sizes that accommodate the majority of applications, but many openings will require custom sizing. The same applies to doors. Some openings will require a standard door size with custom sized transoms or side-lites to make the opening appear correct.
